adamjcook,

Why is Secretary going to again?

Undoubtedly, this trip is going to be used as a major propaganda avenue for the .

And US-based chip manufacturers will continue to sell out this country with both hands.

adamjcook, to detroit

Damn.

I was wondering why my throat was getting sore.

adamjcook,

@eridyn Thank you.

I have a small air filter, so we shall see.

My building is quite old and the windows are quite leaky so that is not, unfortunately, helping things.

eridyn,

@adamjcook Same with some of our windows. I'm quite thankful I bought air filters to mitigate allergies and household COVID transmission risk last year.

Good luck, and hopefully the wind turns soon.

I was at Pride all weekend while visiting with my wife (videos and photos soon!), so I missed this Drama concerning that erupted.

Ok.

Let us, again, all put on our hats and take a look at the situation here as I understand it.

Below is the video that kicked the beehive between Tesla defenders and detractors on "what really happened?".

This clearly chaotic video was taken from a larger drive sequence in which FSD Beta was active.

🧵👇

adamjcook,

The video above was extracted from the Tweet shown below.

If you do not know the players involved here...

Ross Gerber is the individual driving this vehicle. Ross is an ardent Tesla supporter, Tesla investor and a prominent voice within the Tesla Community.

Dan O'Dowd is the individual in the passenger seat. Dan is the creator of The Dawn Project which primarily targets Tesla's program in terms of what it perceives as its public safety issues.

adamjcook,

First off, one really has to "love" the placement of the mobile device charging pads in this vehicle - a vehicle which is unvalidated as it pertains to being equipped with a highly-complex automated driving system, no less.

The placement of these pads ensure maximum driver inattentiveness to the roadway and to the dynamic driving task.

This is not a "side issue". The components are an integral part of the human-machine system in terms of a validation process.

Does Senator have brain worms, or what?

What does this even mean?

LGmedia,

@adamjcook it means they all want control and a piece of the money pie.

dangeratio,

@adamjcook it means they want their piece of the pie

adamjcook, to chicago

Holy shit, !

When did you build all of these new buildings? 🤪

(Have not been here since 2018.)

adamjcook,

First time using the Ventra app for the train…

Think I just had the monthly wallet card, back in the day.

Cool Art Deco graphics on the ticket!

Just a random picture today on my daily walk to the grocery store...

This one features my favorite building in Detroit (on the center-right)... the Penobscot Building: https://www.historicdetroit.org/buildings/penobscot-building

A shame that the current deadbeat owners do not take better care of it.

But, better days are surely ahead.

The 40-story, white terra cotta, Late Gothic Revival building on the left is Cadillac Tower which, believe it or not, is vacant (but secured for future development).

adamjcook, to detroit

Oh. Cool!

Well. I missed the meeting. 🥴

But it looks like the three buildings next to the Harvard Square Centre Building (which is currently undergoing renovation into residential units) on Broadway Avenue might soon undergo their own "renovation".

That little area of could sure use a boost... and it looks like it just might be happening.

adamjcook,

@BruceMirken The now-demolished Hotel Charlevoix is a famous example: https://historicdetroit.org/buildings/hotel-charlevoix

Ralph Sachs (now deceased) was an infamous slumlord who was a plague on this city.

@adamjcook ugh.

There is nothing like ComputeSharp (https://github.com/Sergio0694/ComputeSharp) for and (yet), no?

Maybe something that is work-in-progress already?

I know next to nothing about political figures or business leaders, but it sure is interesting that the conference would headline , an individual that has spent the entire month targeting the community and is now dabbling in just in time for .

No surprise that 's current leadership would embrace Musk.

And 's did too.

Of course, we also have so-called here at home like and that do the same.

@adamjcook if georgia melonie is still italy's leader, thats why. france is a weird one, some things seem good, some bad, but this is def going in the very bad category and putting macron in that category too!!

adamjcook, to detroit

Happy !

Here we are with another edition of Adam Around - and, like last time, with 3 currently unoccupied buildings.

But as opposed to last time, these buildings likely have a soon-to-be bright future.

First up, is the Detroit Life Building on Park Avenue: https://historicdetroit.org/buildings/detroit-life-building

This building is planned to be renovated into residential units under the so-called "District Detroit" project which has received significant city and state financial backing.

adamjcook,

The last building on Adam's Park Avenue Tour (which can be seen in the above photograph to the right of this one) is the Women's City Club Building.

For the very interesting history of this building, check it out here: https://historicdetroit.org/buildings/women-s-city-club

The current District plan is that this building will become commercial space and I believe that it may be already partially renovated inside.

The white-stoned Kales Building can be seen on the right. The Kales Building is an apartment building.

@coreysnipes @adamjcook I trained as an architect, and we study quite a bit how the modern movement was very much enticed by machine aesthetics. I linked the Banham book on this thread, I was planning to re-read it...

I think you'd be surprised how you can apply this mindset with good aesthetic results in other fields (with a few tweaks).

adamjcook,

@CrackedWindscreen Frankly, the carmakers, after having so misread 's ambitions and long-term planning in this space (as you have noted before)... may just be resigning to the inevitable in terms of a forever-modest Mainland China market.

China will never allow another "VW Group China-like entity" to dominate again, and I believe that includes .

CrackedWindscreen,
@CrackedWindscreen@mastodon.online avatar

@adamjcook Oh I agree. They're doomed in China's market, but even worse they're doomed outside.

adamjcook, to China

This is a mistake.

In general, I do not support improving - economic relationships... and more than that, the US needs to at least have a quasi-unofficial economic policy of a complete decoupling from China-to-US imports (as China effectively has via its Made In China 2025 program).

I appreciate the timing issues and the heat from US business leaders that the Administration is under here, but this will cost us dearly in time.

We need urgency here.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/russellflannery/2023/06/14/blinken-set-to-travel-to-beijing-amid-continuing-us-china-strains/

adamjcook,

@ablackcatstail I will take any partial agreement on this! 😅

This talk of mine is obviously foreign (from how the West has operated in China for years) and somewhat uncomfortable, but I think there needs to be urgency at home (and in the West) on this.

Shoot for a complete decoupling on imports.

Shoot for US companies to completely exit China (if by law, if we must).

And then let's see where we eventually end up.

A China, ruled by the dictatorship, is not be trusted.

ablackcatstail,

@adamjcook It's probably more of plutocracy than dictatorship or some hybrid between them. It would be great to bring manufacturing back to the US.
