Just curious from any out there...

What is the opinion on these days versus ?

If you were a Twitch streamer, did you move over to Kick? If so, how has it been going? Thinking about moving over?

Getting ready to launch an and -related educational stream (not games, no one wants to see me flop around on games 😅).

Planning on multi-streaming to YouTube, TikTok and either Twitch or Kick.

The Beaubien House.

Built in 1851, it is one of the oldest surviving buildings in Downtown .

Today, I believe that it is an office building for rent and/or a small co-working space.

adamjcook,

The house sits on land that used to be part of 's history of "ribbon farms" that were positioned all along the Detroit River.

Apparently, this house sits on the land indicated by the red arrow (that I drew) on this undated survey map (circa 1800?).

Today, of course, Jefferson Avenue and the Detroit Riverfront separate the Beaubien House from the river... so this house is positioned towards the "rear" of the lot.

adamjcook,

The source for the survey map above is here: https://theclio.com/entry/120079

On that page, there are other interesting historical tidbits in this area and I would recommend checking it out.

adamjcook,

Oh cool!

Here is a 3D, self-guided virtual tour of The Beaubien House.

After the weekend's terrible rescue as we unsuccessfully attempted to recucitate little Moses after fireservice retrived him out of the lake in a park in Bradford, we were not at all prepared for what followed.

We received a call from a parent of a little boy who had found a kitten at the side of the same
lake soaking wet and bleeding. The kitten we have named Nemo is around 6- 8 weeks old, was blue around the mouth, lips and ears, wet through , hypothermic, bleeding and in shock.

@bcwrkittens Poor baby kitten!

Thank you for helping this baby! ❤️‍🩹

adamjcook,

@CrackedWindscreen I will indeed like this!

Thanks!

I will review it and I will post a thread - I always expect Professor Cummings' work to contain interesting content.

    @kentindell COOL!

    adamjcook,

    @kentindell The video included below, for those not on LinkedIn I guess...

    (And complete with for those with needs.)

    video/mp4

    adamjcook, (edited )

    It appears.. that Mastodon "ate" my on the video. 🥴

    Here it is:

    The video presents a rather sophisticated, linear car assembly line constructed from Lego blocks and Lego motion/logic controllers.

    The assembly line is activated by a push button pendant where a human operator can specify either a blue or red car body and roof by depressing the appropriate buttons. The car body can be a different color from the roof.

    The human operator shown picks red for the body and the roof.

    adamjcook,

    The assembly line contains four, yellow articulated robot arms and three vertical presses.

    The first robot arm picks a vehicle "skateboard" (a pre-assembled flat base with four wheels) and places it on the conveyor belt.

    The conveyor moves the assembly to the second robot arm where the robot picks the appropriate car body color (as specified by the human operator at the start of the video) and places it atop the skateboard.

    adamjcook,

    The conveyor then moves the assembly over to the first vertical press station where the Lego car body is joined with the Lego skateboard (by pressing them together).

    The conveyor then moves the assembly over the third robot arm where a car trunk (of the same color as the car body, as selected) is placed atop the assembly.

    The conveyor then moves the assembly over to the second vertical press station where the Lego car trunk is joined with the Lego skateboard.

    adamjcook,

    The conveyor then moves the assembly to the fourth and final robot arm where a car roof is picked per the color specified by the human operator at the start of the video. The car roof is placed atop the assembly.

    The conveyor then moves the assembly over to the third and final vertical press station where the Lego roof is joined to the Lego car body.

    Finally, the completed Lego car rolls off of the assembly line.

    adamjcook,

    @kentindell Nah. The link is fine, in my opinion.

    But this particular video was just cool enough to post out.

    I used this site to grab the video: https://taplio.com/linkedin-video-downloader

    @kentindell I see many are saying when Meta arrives their silos will cut off mastodon.social. Are you migrating to avoid that? If so, how does one find a new place and move?

    adamjcook,

    @CrackedWindscreen @kentindell Not sure that I even understand how fedi-blocking mastodon.social would be of any value in thwarting Meta, frankly.

    Genius. Twitter has just messed up the user experience for non paying users with the rate limits… and now it’s going to make Tweetdeck limited to paying users too https://www.theverge.com/2023/7/3/23783092/twitter-tweetdeck-new-preview-force-legacy-apis

    If Musk’s unpleasant views didn’t break Twitter completely, then this rapidly worsening user experience damned well should

    (Link via @craiggrannell )

    adamjcook,

    @Peternimmo @jon @craiggrannell I see it as Musk just grabbing with both hands - likely in an effort to avoid having to sell off more Tesla stock in order to keep Twitter afloat (and/or to finance new growth avenues, whatever they may be).

    Musk, under no circumstances, can allow Twitter to die (or be sold).

    It would not only remove Musk's ability to use Twitter to convert soft power into hard power... but, far more crucially, a failure would forever remove the cult-like aura around Musk.

    adamjcook,

    @Peternimmo @jon @craiggrannell And the cult is a danger.

    On multiple fronts.

  • adamjcook,

    @kentindell Frankly, I cannot believe that I largely agree with a Benedict Evans piece.

    That does not happen often.

    However, the " automation" angle that is briefly mentioned in here requires, in my view, a much more detailed analysis.

    And, I think, if Benedict had pulled that string more... it would have really solidified the point that you then made down thread here.

    adamjcook,

    @kentindell It actually reminds me to firm up my "Alien Dreadnought" and "Tesla Bot" thread that has just been sitting in my drafts for some time.

    Very relevant here, in my view.

    adamjcook,

    @kentindell @CrackedWindscreen Indeed.

    Well, the piece… as you suspect… is very high level.

    I “agree” with it, but it is so high level that it is hard not to.

    Ken hangs, what I would consider, the minimum amount of meat on the bone that would have made this piece meaningful.

    He broke the site, came up with a lie to explain why it's broke and the press was like, "Makes total sense!" https://www.reuters.com/business/media-telecom/musks-twitter-rate-limits-could-undermine-new-ceo-ad-experts-say-2023-07-03/

    adamjcook,

    @lolgop Constantly. Constantly this is done.

    It is beyond exhausting.

    And it has actually proved to be extraordinarily dangerous when lies about the capabilities and availability of 's product, in particular.

    The press often allows Wall Street analysts, that are not competent in systems, to advance Musk's dangerous lies.

    The community has been battling this for years.

    The Hudson's Site Tower is coming along nicely...

    Soon-to-be second tallest building in (and the second tallest in ).

    adamjcook,

    The 11-story mid-rise building, also built on the Hudson's Site/Block, appears to be now completed - perhaps even on the inside.

    I have not seen significant construction activity around this building in a few months.

    Here it is shown from Woodward Avenue, looking north-east.

    adamjcook,

    @NeadReport Development in is really cranking!

    Q1: It will be a bit of an unexpected challenge (from when the site broke ground) for sure. But, thankfully, the tower was built with a highly mixed-purpose mindset from the start. It should be OK. We need hotel space in this town like yesterday.

    Q2: The People Mover is great! Although, in my view, it needs to be expanded west into Corktown and north into Midtown/New Center. Then we would really be in business.

    adamjcook,

    @NeadReport Mechanical Engineering!

    Very cool!

    Machinery design is my favorite.

    adamjcook,

    @NeadReport Very soon!

    Sometime this month, I intend to start live-streaming myself designing various machinery in CAD - some machinery and industrial robots, from start-to-finish.

    Kinda just doing final testing out the platforms now.

    A colleague and mine will soon launch a non-profit effort for open-source (systems) engineering and manufacturing education. So, that might be something for him to check out soon.

    I will announce everything on Mastodon, of course. 😀
