I would love to do a piece of research where you present Europeans with a list of other countries and ask if they're white or not, because I'd be fascinated to see the results by country.

One of the advantages of blogging is that you don’t have to repeat yourself every time a discourse returns. Like right now we have a new “RSS is dead” discourse and I can simply share my post from December 2020 and call it a day.

Once again it's day. Last two weeks was pure mess and Erdoğan did his best to further oppress and silence Kılıçdaroğlu to the point authorities banned him from sending SMS to people for legal reasons while everyone else, including me, were getting Erdoğan propaganda SMS messages from politicians we have no idea how they got our numbers.

It’s going to be an interesting day. As in the saying “may you live in interesting times”.

This post tells me two things about Sam Altman.

  1. His taste in movies only consist of blockbusters.
  2. He’s REALLY bad at video games. https://mastodon.online/@parismarx/112216869375145226

Well, the local elections in Turkey turned out to be an historic for several reasons. I was expecting most of it but not at this level.

First of all, CHP for the first time got the most votes in general, meaning AKP is the second. Plus, CHP has won not only the biggest cities in Turkey but also took many new ones from AKP, some was seen impossible. There are cities CHP won for the first time ever or decades later.

ahmetasabanci,
@ahmetasabanci@mastodon.social avatar

There are two main reasons for this. First one is the economy. Even though things were bad last year, it got even worse after the general election and AKP had to start implementing austerity policies. People were not happy about it and decided to give a message.

Second one is CHP campaign was not perfect but much smarter than the general election, plus didn’t have the baggage of the formal coalition with parties like İYİ. OTOH, AKP was a total mess. Their campaign was focused on Erdogan.

A post I just saw made me realize one of the reasons I want to use social media less and less is that people are primed to be angry and looking for a fight. I’m here to learn, discover new stuff, share things I enjoy or care but I always feel like doing that will bring toxic people out of the woods to attack me.

I already have enough things to be angry about thanks to where I live, I’m not looking for more.

Wow. This is precisely what happened to me. In the 1990s I was diagnosed with anxiety disorder/panic attacks. Then, a couple of years ago, I was referred for...

@Richard_Littler it was my experience in Turkey throughout 2000-2010s. Diagnosed with anxiety disorder by multiple doctors and none of the treatments worked yet they insisted on it. Then I decided to do some extra research, figured out the ADHD potential and hunted for a doctor who knows about adult ADHD to finally get my diagnosis.

Two notes about the latest Threads federation news:

  • Zuck’s post got everyone excited but it seems like what they’re doing is some kind of closed/private testing. So it’ll take some time before we see anything. (Guessing it’ll happen after they open in EU.)

  • When it happens, I don’t think Bluesky and other closed platforms will stand a chance as a viable option. Which is a really good news.

ahmetasabanci,
@ahmetasabanci@mastodon.social avatar

Why I think it’s a good news?

  • I believe more and bigger adoption of ActivityPub is a better thing if we want our social networks to become decentralized,
  • People who are not tech-savvy can become a part of the fediverse through these bigger places (I know Mastodon also improves itself in many ways),
  • Big names mean more financial resources for all things ActivityPub and let’s be honest you can’t run any of these for free.

I’m doing my best to avoid latest because people trying to make it a thing have no idea how nonprofits work and as someone who spends most of his working time in or around nonprofits I really don’t have time to explain things to people who clearly have no interest in understanding it.

ahmetasabanci,
@ahmetasabanci@mastodon.social avatar

Trust me, if you knew how nonprofits work or what kinds of troubles they deal with every day you’d immediately see that no one would even consider it as a tool for the conspiracies you think about. It’s worse than the worst possible option.

Ya, arkadaşlar, Romalılar. Doctor Who'nun Christmas bölümü bana gayet zevksiz ve kötü geldi. Chibnall'dan sonra kim ne yazsa beğenirim diyordum, öyle olmadı. Hatta kontrol ettim "gerçekten Davies mi yazmış" diye, öyleymiş... :(

ahmetasabanci,
@ahmetasabanci@mastodon.social avatar
