The transsexual dyke your liberal columnists warned you about.

Part-time woman, full-time nuisance. May contain traces of neurodivergence. Cisn't. Now you say ‘pronouns in bio’ because you have no other jokes.

Anti-fascism. Intersectional & queer feminism. Prison abolition. Liberation for all. International solidarity. I've been around long enough to see every discourse several times over, so spare me the bullshit.

Trying Strange New Worlds for the first time and my first impression is…

… there is so much soundtrack going on, I can't make out a single word without subtitles.

Trying to watch "In Theory" and they do the "never before seen crew member who is good friends with our protagonist and enjoys a closeness with him none of our regular heroes do" shtick and I'm already fed up.

Lately, my computer is doing a thing where sometimes the screens will just say "no HDMI signal". I have no idea if this is a fault with the screens, GPU, or cables. Where would I start looking for i.e. GPU logs? Do screens write logs? Is there any practical way to test if a HDMI cable is faulty?

Star Trek TNG should have done more (as in, any at all) gimmick intros. After all, how much effort can it be to re-record a few lines of dialogue?

For "Chain of Command, Part II", they should have had Ronny Cox (Captain Jellico) deliver the "space, the final frontier" speech, teasing the audience as if he was gonna remain captain permanently. For "Rascals", they could have gotten David Tristan Birkin (young/de-aged Picard) to do it.

ENT did this right when they made a new intro for the "In a Mirror, Darkly" two-parter.

I'm bored and Netflix suggested a Jason Statham film to me, and you know how I keep saying Jason Statham films are refreshingly reliable, so I guess I'm watching Mechanic: Resurrection.

Don't make a liar out of me now, Jason.

Say what you will, but what is really the most optimistic thing about TNG, more so than the poverty-less and money-less utopia, is when somebody goes to the captain and says "this weird, unbelievable thing happened to me" and they believe them.

Reg says he sees a creature in the transporter beam and rather than saying "Reg, you well-known anxiety haver, you're imagining things!", they take the transporter apart, twice, to find out.

Beverly says she hears voices at night and has an overwhelming sense of deja-vu, and the captain doesn't say, "my, what an overactive imagination you have! Sleep more and do yoga!", he instructs the crew to sweep the entire ship with sensors, from top to bottom and starboard to port, until they've figured it out.

THAT is a world I'd like to live in.

Deswegen:

  • Homeoffice jederzeit verfügbar
  • Im Team oder alleine, das Ergebnis zählt
  • keine verpflichtenden Team-Events
  • Flexible Arbeitszeiten, ob 9 oder 24 Uhr

Musterfirma. Der etwas andere Arbeitgeber.

Well, that's Win10 set up, and hopefully opted out of all the surveillance crap I can opt out of.

Pretty dystopian that Windows tells me during the installation that I will see ads on Windows, huh?

And "leave everything to us" while the setup finishes? Also dystopian.

Covid: It's That Bad

This is one of the most comprehensive write-ups I've seen and probably what I will be linking to from now on.

So, we have a virus that's incredibly contagious. It kills some people immediately. For everyone else, it damages your brain. It damages your heart and blood vessels. It damages your immune system, making you vulnerable to other diseases. It shortens your telomeres. It ages you.

[…]

It's so bad the average person can't wrap their heads around it. They would rather comfort themselves with platitudes. They would rather gaslight their own family. They would rather fit in.

Okay I've got a question/problem here...

I'm building a site here and it's all default colours, meaning black text on white background. Links are the default blue (purple if clicked), and I've not prescribed any colours via CSS anywhere.

In the footer, I've got an anchor element (a link) with an abbreviation element nested inside it.

Now Firefox's automated accessibility checks throw an error here, and this is a weird one: it claims the text is blue on a purple background, and that it doesn't have enough contrast.

The way I see it, it somehow (how?) thinks there is an unclicked link on the background of a clicked link, which isn't what's happening at all... any help?

Pictured below is the piece in question. The CC link is what's being flagged. Reversing the order of the elements (nesting the anchor inside the abbreviation element) doesn't fix anything, but throws a different error (now it says blue on gray isn't enough, even though there is no gray anywhere).

So uh. Where does one go for email when you don't wanna go to Google, you don't wanna pay a shitload of money for simple email, and you want the least bit of your data being sold and ads and shitty tracking and such. Also I have to be able to use third-party clients (which, ironically, Google is making increasingly harder).

I feel like I asked this before but I can't seem to find it.

Ok, #LibreOffice #Calc question:

I've got to input a bunch of numbers (lab values), and it's important to preserve the precision with which they were entered. Meaning, if I input "9", I want it to say "9", not "9.00", but if I input "9.001245", I want to display all six decimal places I entered, and "9.0" mustn't become "9" either.

The number formats for Calc only seem to let me set a certain number of digits to truncate or pad to, not a flexible amount. Is this possible at all?

Continuing my random sampling of Enterprise episodes and "Sleeping Dogs" has not one, but two blunders right at the start.

For one, they denote pressure in "GSC", which the wiki tells me stands for "grams per square centimeter" (or g/cm² for short). Nothing wrong with that, but then they treat a pressure of 15,000 g/cm² as a lot – still "within tolerance", but soon to become too much for the hull of the shuttlepod.

15,000 g/cm² is 15 bar. There are household plumbing systems operating at that pressure. The idea that a shuttlepod, built for atmospheric entry, couldn't handle 15 bar is ridiculous.

Next up, the crew board the derelict ship, and everyone removes their helmets, Malcolm first. Not only do they do this despite knowing nothing about why the ship is in this state, and without sufficient ability to scan for germs or the likes, but also: Malcolm is sick. He's got the cold.

At this point, they don't know who the ship belongs to, let alone much about the biology of the owners. But apparently Starfleet learned nothing from the Spanish conquerors killing entire tribes with the common cold, even though Dr Phlox earlier pointed out that "in an EV suit you won't be contagious", implicitly ordering Malcolm to keep his on.

tbh, and this is not a shitpost, everyone should have basic medical equipment at home. get that pulse oximeter, get that blood pressure monitor. it's time to take medicine back from doctors.

90% of my ER visits could have been avoided if I had an EKG device and troponin and blood sugar tests tbh, and with 500% less being snarked off by abled EMTs and doctors who don't care about disabled patients.

seriously, disability turns you into your own doctor whether you want to or not. empower yourselves. take your health back from lab coat wearing arseholes who don't deserve your trust because they don't care to earn it.
