Diese ABBA-Avatare sind absolut Uncanny Valley für mich. Hat immer was von Animatronics, aber ohne den Charme.

Just pondered about which human inventions had the most impact in shaping what we call our modern civilisation. I came up with three distinct and significant ones that I'm going to share later in this thread.

Which ones would you pick?

@nblr I think one I would pick is the practice of Recordkeeping. It shaped the self-perception of human societies and laid the foundation for numerous civilisational developments.

Tomorrow is coming to , and I'm more than a little bit curious, how it will play out.

That's where we stand @heiseonline regarding from #X/Twitter and its main competitors right now. It's more quick and dirty than my other ones.

Keep in mind, that there's a substantial amount of traffic from , that we currently don't see (because of the cutting of the URL): I'm pretty sure, that Mastodon has already overtaken . is far, far behind.

So, what do you miss most on (if anything), that has been a big part of :

If something else, please comment (there are only 4 options in the polls here).

@mho To me, the content seems pretty balanced overall.

What I miss most is my “online friend/acquaintances” social circle that got really fragmented since the Twitter takeover. A lot of people I know are here now, but others are only active elsewhere or at multiple sites half-heartedly and others stopped being active on social media altogether.

At least a part of the this whole debate about and the seems to boil down to the most persistent argument on : People saying, well I have all the connections I want here, so why are you complaining about missing people or communities?
Meta is so so many people that could get to know and embrace the like many did after the .

@mho We will have to wait until we know how this big actor actually implements the protocol.

The way I see it, the ActivityPub specs leave some room for more unfortunate, broad interpretations (e.g. removing federated objects can unilaterally be declared “not allowed … at the receiver's discretion”).

In its current form, the network assumes an agreed level of good faith and the only way to deal with bad-faith actors is defederation. And the bigger the actor in question, the more socially difficult it is to justify defederation.

Uh... little FYI

If you are on and you post PUBLICLY you are basically SHOUTING your message across the internet..

If you don't want the NSA or any other data scraper to get your posts DO NOT post public! :blob_derpy:

It doesn't go both ways...

There are dozens of other post options that do not push your posts over the web with ActivityPub to thens of thousands of servers

andre,
@andre@glitch.dumbly.net avatar

@stux @jose @aroom The AP specs leave a little wiggle room, though. I'm still wary of how broadly Meta will interpret “not allowed to be removed … at the receiver's discretion.”
