While not a very well-known account, I tried the same thing for a couple of weeks, trying to get people to migrate to .

The strategy, as I remember it, was quite different. The wanted a centralized platform earn royalties for professional writers, was my take on the back then.

This is different. OFC would block that!--This would have destroyed the value of the acquisition--virtually global reach/a...

Analysis shows that major advertisers are spending 55% less on Superbowl ads on Twitter/X than last year.

I have no idea what the end game is here but the current trajectory of the app feels like a controlled demolition.

The thing about building an "everything" app (payments commerce messaging etc)is that it doesn't work if you won't build it for ~everyone.

Unless you can - for example - get an entire family to use it regardless of their political leaning, you will fail.

An everything app must be as inoffensive and apolitical and non ideological as possible.

    Whatsapp. Facebook messenger. Etc.

Musk openly does not want X to be that.

So, accounts on #Threads will have to opt-in to #federation with #Mastodon and the #Fediverse.

    https://www.threads.net/@mosseri/post/C051TLnud8U

Correct me, if I'm wrong, but doesn't that change the whole debate here? Only a small part of #Threads user base will do that. The majority doesn't know about the #Fediverse, and won't care.

But that also means that there won't be a flood of content/accounts/stuff from Threads here in the Fediverse. For the most part, both will stay separated.

If you're curious about the set of dog-tags that Elon Musk is wearing while he's smirking and telling people "Go fuck yourself", they're from the IDF.

Haven't seen anyone else report on it yet, but Elon Musk, Twitter's Nazi-meme-posting owner, is wearing dog-tags from the Israel Defence Forces. He's making a visible dog-whistle to show support of Israel's genocide in Palestine.

@heiseonline is on of the biggest official accounts on by a german media organization. It's now a year old and I had a look into the ~62k followers. Turns out, that federation in the seems to work: Less than a fourth are from mastodon.social, the rest are on more than 1900 different instances.

    mho,

If you take the creation date of the accounts following @heiseonline, there is a clear peak in the 4th quarter of 2022 (), since then, there is visible stability: More than 5000 follower where created in each quarter.

If you just take the months and limit them to 2022 and 2023, you see the big peak in November (roughly a third was created then) and the slowdon in summer 2023.

Creation-date of accounts following @heiseonline by month, with the same peak in late 2022, but more info for 2023.
