never thought i would miss the days of fake money for criminals.

at least that was a convenient way for the most annoying people to out themselves and didn’t end up ruining every tech product in existence.

has the government tried doing anything about this?

the only reason I ask is that they’ve been doing nothing for a decade now and it seems to not be working.

has there ever been any business meeting less realistic than the council of elrond?

you seriously want me to believe that a meeting ended with a decision being made and multiple teams taking ownership of the problem?

Interviewer: what happens when you type google.com enter your address bar and hit enter?

Candidate: talks for 18 hours

Interviewer: didn't mention that the host USB controller polled the keyboard, powered by 5V on pin 1, to get the keycodes stored in its internal memory. fail.

a tech D&D alignment scale with one side having the team at Apple that invented the thing that automatically fills in your six-digit SMS codes and the other side having the team at Apple that invented balloons falling during your therapy session when you wave your hands a certain way on camera

thinking about how crazy it is that to access your financial data in pretty much any app you have to entrust your bank login and password to a random middle-company called Plaid.

and if you don’t (or your bank doesn’t support them), then your only option is downloading the worst CSV you’ve ever seen.

@lcamtuf we do this at Dropbox, I spend a couple days every year writing about 15 or so reviews. thus far I haven’t been convinced that this is better in any way than normal manager driven performance reviews.

iOS and iPadOS 17.3 add Stolen Device Protection. this disables passcode fallback and introduces delays for changing your device passcode and Apple ID password, when your phone is away from a familiar location:

All of you tech people who have bins and bins of obsolete cables, know now that your hoarding is completely justified.
