Godot can blend your game with a binary payload to create a playable game for various platforms.

For iOS, this generates an Xcode project that you need to compile on a Mac.

I think this would suck for an iPad user. Wondering just how painful it would be to do the entire signing dance and integrate into AppStore Connect to publish apps directly from the iPad.

Anyone familiar with any apps trying to do this?

So I’m just catching up with this trader nonsense and I gotta say: the fuck is wrong with the EU??

avimanyuroy,
@avimanyuroy@mastodon.social avatar

@jsq if you regulations constantly lead to businesses being pissed and also users being pissed. Maybe you should actually think abit more into implementation instead of “how aboutism’s” and “what-if’s”. This is the same body that is constantly proposing regulations to mandate easy switching between different messaging clients with 0 shits of the engineering or ux to do so.

I bet such regulations are giving birth to tremendous impactful players in industries lol

i know this shouldn't surprise me, but the number of smart AI people who are saying things like, "if a person can read the nytimes, it's only fair that an LLM can read it into its parameters," is mindblowing.

i don't know how copyright should work for LLMs, we probably need to figure it out since it's new, but this argument makes no sense to me because it says because people have a right to do something it should be obvious that a machine should have that right. that is bonkers reasoning.

avimanyuroy,
@avimanyuroy@mastodon.social avatar

@jbigham If a person has the right to kill another in war, so should a machine…oh wait

scottjenson, to UX
@scottjenson@social.coop avatar

I did some consulting for a non profit in Nairobi a while ago, and in addition to various UX stuff, I suggested they use a (a simple cached website) instead of an app.

I talked to them this morning. They shipped it and are thrilled. It's SO much smaller than an app, a critical issue in rural Kenya, and it's significantly easier to get people to find and install it.

So exciting when people discover the value of the standard, unfussy web

avimanyuroy,
@avimanyuroy@mastodon.social avatar

@scottjenson focus on the user. And the problems that they have. And then figure out the technology to use to cater to them and get by the problem instead of focusing on the technology and moulding it for the problem. The former is bound to have a better outcome.

A trained AI model like Llama is less “open source” than a compiled obfuscated binary.

It's a bit unsettling to see publications like Ars Technica fall for the “open source" nomenclature for AI models. If the sources are really open, show us the training data.

Ars Technica: ”Meta launches Llama 2, an open source AI model that allows commercial applications”
https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2023/07/meta-launches-llama-2-an-open-source-ai-model-that-allows-commercial-applications/

avimanyuroy,
@avimanyuroy@mastodon.social avatar

@fj tech journalism essentially has 0 effort into it nowadays. They essentially copy paste press releases and never look into the actual products or relevant substance. those who are good often go private or aren't as mainstream. quite upsetting at times

What people hear when scientists would say the earth would get “1 or 2 degrees celcius warmer”: “oh summers will be a bit warmer :-)”

What it really means: “there’s a fuckton of extra joules of energy stored in the atmosphere now, which will wreak havoc accordingly”

avimanyuroy,
@avimanyuroy@mastodon.social avatar

@brunoph they do not get the scale. We should use "x more storms with much more intensity at random time" as a measure

I get that Meta blocking access in the EU frustrates some people. But the takes from primarily US-based people are quite something. The EU prioritises guardrails and safety. Yes, that can sometimes lower agility. But it does mean eg food quality and safety tend to be higher. And it also means tech companies have less opportunity to ride roughshod over its population.

avimanyuroy, (edited )
@avimanyuroy@mastodon.social avatar

@craiggrannell while the referred post/person oft makes comments in poor taste. The EU with regards to tech is a masterclass at setting dates in the future to shoot themselves in the foot from now.

Consistently proving an utter lack of foresight and understanding and being shocked at how it all plays out.
