Provoked by a dollop of hopeful shame, there are times I still wonder if I’m “on the spectrum”. Then something about human society wallops me right into “Yes. Yes, I really am so bloody autistic.” No matter how consummately I try to emulate, anticipate, script, conscript, or model it… neurotypical human social brouhaha is a game I can never ever really play at, never mind win.

I’m too old to really care to try anymore. So… cheers to us. 🥂

@Shufei @actuallyautistic Since discovering my own #autism, I keep wondering how autistic I actually am. I keep seeing characters on TV or in videogames like Sam from #DeathStranding and feeling like a) they seem more autistic than myself and b) I share some of their traits as well. Until I get officially diagnosed, I’ll just keep asking myself the same questions. 🤔

The hate on Bluesky is on a completely different level. I'm Iraqi Moroccan Israeli Jewish and someone told me to get back to Brooklyn (where I have never been and have never known anyone in). Every single thing I say about my own family experience surviving the massacre is "debunked". You can't debunk my literal life experience lmao. I didn't say one word against Palestinians, I only said the victims of the massacre matter - this is literally all I've said, and I got neverending hate comments.

Being autistic for me means behave a certain way, speak a certain code and keep certain aspects of myself hidden or risk to get attacked, verbally or physically.

looking forward to again hosting dnd this saturday. it just occured to me that our reality is sad and pathetic. turning to the internet and people outside this oppressive „society“ is like looking at a piece of art.

Might be seasonal depression but it was really palpable today.

Anyone relate?

Just had a dream where I was explaining my to a former work colleague that I couldn’t stand. Every trope I mentioned, she kept saying “but I do that as well!” and now I’m awake, I feel like a massive fraud.

Any other people suffer from this sort of thing, doubting yourself and questioning whether your instincts are right?

I think I'm done with watching real competitive team sports. I've always had problems with excitement when watching my favorite team play. I've watched yesterdays super bowl, my team being the 49ers. My heart was racing the whole game and it was impossible for me to control my temper in any way, I was stimming like crazy the whole time. Regardless of my team losing, I did not get anything positive out of that experience. I just felt miserable the whole game.

This is a weird situation to be in. In Israel the government is currently affording hotels for free for the refugees of the massacre. It's like vacation but with people who are grieving and having severe PTSD. I feel privileged to have a government I dislike yet that gives a damn, and feel terrible for the Palestinians who are in a humanitarian crisis because of their leadership and the Israeli response to the atrocities. My mom's different, doesn't fully smile. Hope we can relearn joy together
