The Google AI isn’t hallucinating about glue in pizza, it’s just over indexing an 11 year old Reddit post by a dude named fucksmith.

That's precisely the problem with the anthropomorphising term "hallucination" to describe the "alternative facts" generated by Large Language Models. It is always generating a remix of its training data -- whether humans interpret that output to be truthful or nonsense is largely down to luck. It is highly dependent on the sparsity of the training examples in the area of the latent space that your prompt got mapped to by the Transformer neural network.

I asked (creative) to write a nursery rhyme about a billionaire visiting the Titanic wreck in his submersible

The chatbot generated something a bit dark

Notice that I made no mention of , , or and it doesn't look like it did a specific Internet search for the prompt

Ran across this on social media

"I just used ChatGPT to generate a 300 character regex for me, saved me an hour.

TBH if you aren’t using it that seems like a skill issue."

And it’s a perfect example of what I mean when I say that “AI” tools are a fundamentally conservative force

(precise) has concluded that P=NP

I asked it to write a Python script that when given a graph where there are no more than 5 edges for every vertex, it returns the length of the longest path that visits each vertex no more than once. Then lifted the edge count restriction.

In both cases it claimed polynomial time complexity to solve an NP-hard problem
