Flipboard has created a newsletter on LinkedIn called “Fedicurious”. The fediverse has made it to LinkedIn.

Recently, they did a webinar on how federation works in Flipboard geared to content creators.

SpaceHost is out of beta. It’s a new hosting platform for LOTS of different fediverse platforms, not just Mastodon!

Ok this is playing a bit of “six degrees” here but I’m wondering if the part about Wordpress taking off after the Clinton affair and tumblr rising as a competitor is true?

With big players like Flipboard, Wordpress, Ghost and Threads entering the fediverse, along with bridges to Bluesky and more….your choice of platform will be less about content (you’ll see it everywhere!) and more about the app experience and features you prefer. 🥳

I think following specific hashtags of a profile would be useful. Technically it's like following a profile but the timeline posts filtered by specific hashtags. Perhaps similar logic on Mastodon, to hiding boosts from profile or filtering posts by subscribed languages.

Could probably solve the issue where folks create multiple accounts for different interests or circles.

box464,
@box464@mastodon.social avatar

@cheeaun This exists on Forkeys as Antennas. Follow a set of users related to a specific hashtag or keyword that appears in their posts. It’s not retroactive tho, it starts collecting the posts written after the antenna gets setup.

box464,
@box464@mastodon.social avatar

@cheeaun Agreed, too complicated. I like your idea of Follow Tags from the Profile, much easier. You could kinda implement this today with some API trickery but you'd have to store the user/tag combos somewhere. Kinda like you do with your hashtag combo timelines now, maybe?

My brain is telling me "you failed at everything today". But I'm trying to flip that to:

  • I had fun coding on a new Mastodon API toy.
  • I got one step further on a new SAML configuration for work
  • I documented an attempt to get IceShrimp.NET installed

We went to lunch today and the person at the counter asked me to provide my "Star Wars Name" to call out when the order is ready. I just wasn't feeling it today, a bit grumpy and finally said: "Darth Karen"

I must admit I enjoyed hearing them call out "Darth Karen, your order is up!", since this place was teeming with them.

I'm enjoying One Piece on Netflix, as someone that hasn't watched the anime I can't complain about it not matching up.

I can tell it's a bit oversimplified, knowing how long and drawn out anime can get sometimes it's not a surprise. Fight scenes can literally last 3 episodes!

Working in an organization that has adopted Teams as its primary communication tool (though our department still uses Slack), this piece on “Why does Teams make us feel so disconnected?” by Martha Edwards is remarkably astute: https://www.marthaedwards.ca/why-ms-teams-is-not-a-good-alternative-to-slack/

box464,
@box464@mastodon.social avatar

@vasta Spot on in regards to a focus on closed communications. The way notifications work even puts more prominence on closed chats between team members. Trying to start a conversation within a Team channel is kin to shouting into the void. Team members often miss them because the notification alerts are confusing to understand.

A new fediverse iOS app called fedicat @technicat (TestFlight) has a feature I’m calling “bloosts” which is a boost and a like in one button. I love it.

Now I want a “bloostmark” that boosts, likes and bookmaks a post at the same time. 😅

Ok, well, I thought this is a lovely idea, until I realized that AI was involved. It's still a fairy tale / sci fi type of idea you'd find in a story and I give it props for that.

I wonder if it could be turned on it's head a bit and instead of creating new poetry, use AI to analyze the image and find existing public domain poetry that best describes it.

One thing people are missing on the discussion of link previews for Mastodon is they aren't always an image + title. oEmbed scripts are also downloaded to Mastodon, not just the image and title.

3rd party apps mostly ignore these embeds which is a shame in my opinion. If you use the official Mastodon app or web UI, you will see them. Here's an example of a fun one (View this post on the official Mastodon App or website to see it)

Practical solutions to the "don't share this on mastodon" problem:

  1. Include an image in the post, so mastodon doesn't fetch a link preview (you can do this yourself)
  2. Serve static assets from static files, not your app server (sys admins can do this)
  3. Mastodon adds some staggered delay to the open graph fetch (likely simple, but a dev needs to do it)
  4. The origin embeds the link preview and peers just use that (the difficult but correct solution, but gargron needs to agree to it)

@jenniferplusplus This is still my top blog post by far. There’s obviously a lot of interest in how this works. I really just wanted to know why some music sites showed an embedded player and others didn’t. It got out of hand. 😅

If you've ever found yourself missing the "good old days" of the , what is it that you miss? (Interpret "it" broadly: specific websites? types of activities? feelings? etc.) And approximately when were those good old days?

No wrong answers — I'm working on an article and wanted to get some outside thoughts.

@molly0xfff A smaller web. It was fine if your post or website wasn't visible or even findable by masses of individuals - that wasn't the point. It was discovery and community once you found your spot. Enjoying the discussions in front of you. Today, we must consume everything all the time all at once and be infuriated if we can't.

I really like these support tables on the FunFedi website. Seeing the support grid and example responses is very helpful.

I know a lot of devs are jumping from chat room to chat room, looking for someone to reply back in their timelines, etc. to get help when a specific platform isn't working quite right.
