Me: Tries to pay online at youoweus.billpays.nz/3384848392992 and then gives up and calls someone.

“It’s an extra $20 because you called in. Also we show you owe us $8,000. Visa or Amex?”

Fill in the blank with any open source group. Not picking on Mastodon, just using as an example.

Mastodon has used Discord since at least 2018. I found essential tidbits about how featured profiles originated for an article I wrote - that information did not exist anywhere else.

All of that history will be lost if / when they move somewhere else.

I wish there was more use of self-hosted forums, but I get the enticement of real time chat.

Well sometimes you have to find the positives. Tonight I converted a Deno worker to a netlify function and it worked - partially! 😅 I learned more about Deno and Netlify functions than I knew before. Better luck tomorrow.

Things like templates for Privacy Policies, Server Rules and About sections, understanding moderation tasks and the importance of having multiple administrators, funding plans.

Hmmm interesting Threads find - if you don't put alt text on your images, they attempt to guess at what it is and add it for you - and it federates with the image.

It's not very confident in it's answer, always seem to be "Photo by {yourName} on {date}, may be an image of {noun}."

Always better to add your own. But for people who just aren't going to do it, I guess it's better than nothing.
