Upcoming Windows 11 anti-feature:

  • automated wireless intrusion in the setup environment. Don’t have an internet connection? Don’t worry; we’re sure we can break into one of these networks!

I’m always slightly disappointed when a very weird book has a - perfectly fine, pleasant voiced - particular voice actor narrating it. They’re immensely talented and literally award-winning, and I’ve no problem listening to them for hours on end. Yet, I kinda want someone who will be a bit more … emotive.

You will certainly not regret starting 30-50 open source projects.

He’s a GNU/Linux wizard,
But really just a dick,
“I’d like to interject for a moment…”
Why do you think he does it?
(I don’t care)
Why is he such a tool?

(to the tune of Pinball Wizard, obviously)

How the hell have I never just made an executable configure script and tiny Makefile in my CMake repos to make autotools fans more comfortable?

@c0dec0dec0de@hachyderm.io avatar

Oh, no. I’m contemplating writing an extensible front-end for CMake tools à la git where third-parties can throw stuff in.

There’s an LLM called Grok? What the fuck. Seriously. Tech bros understand the absolute most obvious thing from your favorite piece of science fiction, please.
The meaning of grok is in the plain text! We’re not even talking about obvious metaphor, it’s just a made-up word for truly deep understanding and you’re going to name your idiot, fabulist, word generator after it?!

Current, unpaid-for projects I want to work on:
A tool to strip out nondeterminism from RPMs
A tool to run only CTest executables affected by a list of changed files
CMake scripting to automatically add all the necessary subpackages as dependencies of the devel subpackage
My headcanon version of git-grep
A requirements tracker website à la UCF, but free; or OpenSSF badge app, but customizable and can be self-hosted
Terminal classification banner
Virtual console classification banner

Dog-walking thought: Does git-grep exist (yes) to allow you to search through the whole of the repo for changes (no, that’s in git-log)?

I have a stupid idea, but I'm not quite sure how to make it happen. Modern linux systems seem to be eschewing virtual consoles, but assuming that you wanted to keep using them and also had to meet a requirement to display a classification banner on-screen at all times, where would be the best place to try to insert a banner, agetty?

Finished @marthawells newest Murderbot Diaries, System Collapse, and - aside from wanting to go back and immediately reread it - I’m still puzzling over whether I think it’s funnier/better if Cruel Romance Personage is the original title of a piece in-world media, or a correct, but clunky translation of the original title.

Can’t find it now, but there was a thread about C not being a direct interface to hardware (said that proponents had been repeatedly bodied).
It’s worth adding that assembly isn’t the “language of the machine” for modern CPUs either. At best, it’s an API for talking to a processor. The chip will decide how to do what you’ve asked and reassign registers to ones that only exist within the silicon, interleave other code as it can…
@twoscomplement had an episode on it that was fun to listen to.
