Know what I want? I want your recommendations for an air purifier/humidifier that doesn't suck. Also a shit dehumidifier that will happily be on 24 hours and drain by a hose. Yes. That.

@camerondotca@mastodon.nz avatar

Also, for those of you who live in places where the idea of a humidifier is confusing, when it's -30C our houses are warm, but dry as fuck, so we all wind up with blinding headaches and sinus issues.

    First person I have blocked in ages on Insta and FB wound up being someone I've known since I was mb 14 or 15. Posted a very nicely produced, trained spox telling me that I was wrong to believe my lying eyes and that the destruction was probably not that bad in Gaza. There are limits. That apparently is one.

    The worst thing about online learning is that everything has become a video. Every code tutorial. Every design tutorial. Nobody actually writes out a guide anymore.

    It's just "hey guys welcome to my tutorial" and watching 10 minutes of content that mostly isn't relevant...

    @Daojoan breaks every damn rule of online learning. Also I believe I now have a physical reaction to the phrase "hey guys"

    So, funny story: remember how that Stanford professor described last years' layoffs as a "social contagion" exercise, where CEOs were just doing it because everyone else was doing it?

    Well, funny story, everyone get your surprised face ready, but it was in fact a coordinated effort spurred by large shareholders and hedge funds to suppress wages:

    I want to talk about something that I've experienced here in Spain. To be clear, besides Holland and the UK, this is the only other Euro country I've been to. From the outside, and on paper, Spain seems quite good about LGBTQIA+ rights. (you can dig in deeper and tell me I'm wrong: I largely did a "will my kid be killed" level of research). The thing is, all my research said it would be fine. BUT! they didn't talk about the reality on the ground.. so, here's where I say something...

    camerondotca,
    @camerondotca@mastodon.nz avatar

    .. which will provide context: our kid is trans and a punk/goth. This translates to 187 cm of tall (before docs), bleach blonde, black eye makeup trans kid coming up the sidewalk at you. So, realisticaly at home people notice them. But 90% of the time it's like "oh. ok. Right" and then the go back to their business. There are 10% fuckwits everywhere. Or so I thought. Basically, Spain and the tourists that visit it appear to have been badly raised and/or not punched in the face enough.

    Ego is a funny thing. I go to a super local one branch grocery store. It's around a KM away. I often come home with a backpack and an IKEA bag, sort of waddling under the weight of it all. I own a grocery cart that I only use when getting propane for the BarBQ. The thing is I refuse to use it for groceries because I don't like looking old. And today I'm exhausted and I said fuck it and I got a delivery worth of stuff home for free. And I fill dumb for having an ego

    Someone I knwo is part of the evacuation from Yellowknife. She posted a picture from the highway out. Seeing the CL-415 coming out of the haze must be both a total relief and horror. Also one of her neighbours just turned on a sprinkler on her house... So many people are going to lose so very much.

    Poll after poll show that Quebecers disapprove of the CAQs IF you ask them about specific issues (the economy, healthcare, COVID, housing, environment) but (this data is from June, but I don't think it's changed much) they would still win a huge majority if there was an election. https://338canada.com/quebec/ Part of this is that the opposition parties range from "utter fucking rudderless crap with no leader" to "oh, those are radical lefties" (which really means they are center left on most things)

    Not surprising: during formal innauguration of the short REM stretch earlier today, the Quรฉbec premier starts talking about to increase electric car production. It is not the time to discuss increasing car production during the launch of a public transit system. But politicians just think about votes and bragging about job creation instead of making cities less car centrric and more liveable.
