The Oklahoma State Superintendent who worked with LibsofTikTok to orchestrate death threats against a school principal for being a drag performer, has now accused another school of being funded by and working with the Chinese Communist Party.

Cops in Philadelphia killed a man in cold blood, lied about it, and got their commish to repeat those lies.

A doorbell camera blew up their narrative.

Now the killer cop is getting fired, but—as always—the cop union is saying the cop did nothing wrong by killing an unarmed immigrant in his own car. https://abcnews.go.com/US/philadelphia-police-officer-involved-fatal-shooting-eddie-irizarry/story?id=102476983

Elon Musk called me a “stalker ex gf” today for posting news and links to Washington Post stories about X on Threads.

It’s almost like I’m a tech reporter covering social media or something!

carodjah,

@taylorlorenz @Lamhfada Funny because Ian “Ants In My Pants” Cheong stalked and harassed game journalists, trans people, women, and game devs for checks notes wow almost a decade now.

All because someone somewhere thought Witcher 3 was a 9/10 instead of 10/10.

Note that, on top of Idaho’s trigger bans activating, there’s also this:

“Idaho also became the only state in the country to stop tracking maternal mortality rates. Activists say it’s like they don’t want anyone to know how deadly their decisions might be.”

I gotta say.. The Fediverse can be a funny thing :blobcatgiggle:

Just checked out an instance(url) that I never visited before and the first thing I see is my own post :bloblaugh:

Not the first time either :fediverse:

carodjah,

@stux Was it at least a post you were proud of? Like one with a particularly titillating pun?

Insurance companies can’t refuse coverage for pre-existing conditions, thanks to the Affordable Care Act.

So, to keep profits high, they’ve resorted to denying insurance claims in bundles.

It’s gotten so out of hand, one insurer denied 80% of all claims in 2020.

Another sent a letter to a 4-day old baby, telling them they could drink from a bottle and breathe on their own, so their stay in the ICU would not be covered. https://www.pbs.org/newshour/health/analysis-health-insurance-claim-denials-are-on-the-rise-to-the-detriment-of-patients

Anti- groups are trying to revive a 150yo law in an attempt to kill all abortion clinics, by making it illegal not just to mail medicines used in the procedure, but also medical instruments commonly used in gynecology.

The Comstock Act’s author thought fetuses formed the second sperm was released, and even HE hated that his law was initially used to punish licensed physicians. https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2023/05/16/comstock-act-abortion-access/

carodjah,

@c0dec0dec0de Apparently everyone’s considered the law moot for ages because congress had to revise it so many times, but shrug

’s republicans have failed to pass two of their priority bills this session:

A 6-week ban, and a ban on ALL gender-affirming healthcare for minors.

So their new play is to change the first ban to 12 weeks, and shove it into the second ban. They need 33 votes to pass it, and currently have 32 seats.

I’d expect riots at the capitol if they succeed. https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/why-nebraska-conservatives-might-combine-abortion-trans-health-care-bans

A stranger basically just called me bougie in the middle of a store.

Looking at bedding when I hear a couple behind me. ‘I ain’t never heard of a pillow costing that much! How could it cost that much?’ says the man to the woman.

Then I become aware he’s talking about me as he says, ‘He looks like someone who’d know why a pillow is so expensive. Hey, hey, why would a pillow be so expensive?’

carodjah,

@Holberg So...why was it so expensive?

carodjah,

@Holberg Search tells me eiderdown is feathers from an eider duck, which is listed as nearly threatened

STOP KILLING DUCKS FOR A HEAD REST (altho if it’s super soft I can see the appeal, I have three different pillows and each one feels off)

carodjah,

@samhainnight @Holberg I’ve got one of those (tho from amazon bc nearest Costco is like an hour+ drive), and even when I reduced the amount of chunk in it, I still felt like it was propping my head up too much. So then I tried one of the memory foam pillows with its own little cutout for your neck and head, but I sleep on my side enough that I just keep having pillow in my face hahaha.

rn I’m using just a cheap Walmart one, I think the brand with the sheep.

carodjah,

@samhainnight @Holberg Might have to try, tho my bed is already super tall, hahaha. Took over grandpa’s bed after he passed, and the thing is almost waist high, with its own like built-in cushy top? (Think he got it bc he was old, and when he shared it with grandma, she was dealing with diabetes and weight problems.)

much comfier than the super-old, adjustable-and-vibrating bed I had before, which was smaller than a twin bed.

Until reading this piece, I had no idea how extremely pampered the US dairy industry is by the federal government.

USDA rules tie school funding to requirements that they serve milk and don’t offer alternatives like bottled water. https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2023/05/12/dairy-milk-lawsuit-school-lunch/

@seth Pretty freaking amazing, right? So many ways in which we could be making lives better, but don’t, because big lobbies have locked things down in ridiculous ways.

A man drove through protestors and shot one to death.

The man he killed was a veteran named Garrett Foster, whose widow, Whitney Mitchell, is a quadruple amputee. Foster has been her caretaker for at least 9 years.

A jury convicted the killer. A judge sentenced him to 25 years.

But Greg Abbott is promising to pardon him because killing protesters is a good thing in his eyes. https://www.texastribune.org/2023/05/10/daniel-perry-murder-austin-protestor/
