I'm stuck in a town hall, listening to the management team talk about themselves. The head of the department (a key player in a major global company) just said they sleep well. When asked how they achieve this, they replied, 'Well, I just think it's really important.'

And there you have it. If you ever suffer from insomnia or sleep disruptions, you'll be delighted to know that the solution is to remind yourself that sleep is important. Your brain and body will comply.

Simples!

This is completely understandable and also a tragic loss to the whole UK.

You know the writers of a US TV show have never been to the UK, even tho they've set a story arch here when:

"I'll be at Heathrow in an hour"

No dear, you won't. You really won't.

Last night, I migrated my web domain to my new host. I redirected the domain to the new site I’d carefully set up.

This morning, the whole thing is entirely broken. Because of course it is.

clacksee,
@clacksee@wandering.shop avatar

Apparently, it’s a good thing. The people who do SSL certificates wanted to be sure it was really me doing the migration. But it just looks really bad to anyone visiting my website while it says I’m trying to steal their personal and financial info.

clacksee,
@clacksee@wandering.shop avatar

And now they can’t match my ID. Because some of my ID uses my first name, some uses my initials, and some uses only my first initial. Also, in some, my address has an apostrophe; in others, it doesn’t. Sometimes it shows my borough and sometimes it doesn’t. Basically, nothing matches to the computer … except it all does to the human eye.

clacksee,
@clacksee@wandering.shop avatar

All right. I’ve now provided them with multiple copies of statements showing different variations of my name. Hopefully this sorts it. Will know in a few hours.

clacksee,
@clacksee@wandering.shop avatar

Nine hours later, my website is still completely unavailable. Anyone who tries to visit sees a message that I'm trying to steal their personal and financial info. Way to make a good impression with prospective customers.

I've provided all the evidence to the people I bought my domain from and they've provided to … whoever needs it. I'm just waiting for them to review it.

clacksee,
@clacksee@wandering.shop avatar

@RPBook
Interesting. I got a different error on Safari. I just tried to visit on Firefox and got a similar message. Neither one is giving me a 409.

The problem is that Nominet expired my security certificate when I tried to redirect the domain to my new host. I'm waiting for them to review the evidence I provided to prove I have the right to do so. Once that's done, then I need to match the links up with what they were on my old host.

clacksee,
@clacksee@wandering.shop avatar

@RPBook
I think I know what’s wrong. Or at least, I know one thing that’s wrong. And I’m waiting for someone else to fix it. Then I’ll find out if that’s the only thing.

Excellent. And thank you.

I’m starting ’s training course introduction to copy-editing this afternoon. I’m probably the only person to take this course after passing the intermediate course but, holy crap, that course was hard. I’m self-taught and apparently the way I approach everything is wrong.

Wish me luck!

If you've read Left Hand of Dog by @clacksee you'll understand why my wife's response amused me.

If you haven't read it, you should. It's very good 😂

All right, Fediverse. Help a writer out, would you?

In my next book ( vs serial killers), I've got a group of drag artists who go around local retirement communities, libraries, community centres, etc. putting on shows for the community. They're mostly older performers and their audience is mostly retired people. I need a name for the group.

I'm thinking something that plays with the notion of royalty and vintage.

@clacksee my wife and I both enjoyed Jurassic Dark. Very good choice of narrator, by the way 🙂

I bought two more audiobooks from the series this morning. I guess I should thank the person that thinks TERF is hate speech for introducing us to a new author.

Thanks. @kayeluvian did a fab job with that series.

It used to be Democrats versus Republicans, liberals versus conservatives, left versus right.

That is over.

It is now democracy versus authoritarianism.

The 2024 election is fast approaching. Know the stakes.

Got a delightful new one-star review of Jurassic Dark this morning. A reader says she couldn't get past the hateful language on the content warnings page. Why she wanted to read a book with a trans main character in the first place, I'm not sure.

But if you want to read a book with a trans MC, you can get it now. The ebook and the audiobook are both free.

Everyone at home is sick with fevers & coughs except me today. It would be completely irresponsible & a dereliction of duty for me as a close contact for whatever it is my family are carrying to not reduce the potential exposure to my patients by 100 fold by wearing a fit-tested particulate filtering respirator whilst at work.
This is a permanent change to my practice & should be for all healthcare workers going forward.

I had my first hospital visit in 3 years recently. That in itself is a miracle. But I was shocked at how few hospital staff wore any kind of face covering. There were more patients in masks than there were staff.

Reminder:
The "Freedom" Convoy donated $460,000 to Pierre Poilievre's leadership campaign.
That's why he won't renounce them. They bought him. Imagine a so-called national leader aligning with a group of domestic terrorists."

In the book I’m reading, someone says, ‘When he’d worn a circle beard, he’d been really hot.’

Circle beard isn’t a term I’d encountered before, so I googled it out of curiosity.

Google did not disappoint.
