This is why I worry. From Threads, a convo w/ @lolgop:

jerbrad28:

But: “New polls this week served up a surprise: They showed Robert F. Kennedy’s presidential run pulling more support from Donald than from President . And even some Republicans are publicly insisting that they fear the same.”

LOLGOP:

… It's part of the ruse. Trump can't win if Biden gets over 50% and Bobby makes sure he can't.

clarkvalentine,
@clarkvalentine@dice.camp avatar

@GottaLaff @lolgop I know, April polls, yes. But recent polls (as reported by 538) suggest Biden does measurably worse in PA with Kennedy on the ballot than without. And PA is essential to Biden. Kennedy is a big problem.

JUST IN: signals it may undermine more common charges as justices ask DOJ to respond to petition challenging 'disorderly or disruptive' charges v. Russell Alford. DC Cir ruled charges valid even for nonviolent protesters.

DOJ had deemed Alford's petition unworthy of a response, but today asked for one

@GottaLaff It would be hilarious* if SCOTUS simultaneously found that states could charge people for sleeping outside and also the feds can’t charge people for trying to overthrow the government

*not hilarious, the other thing

Hey, 40+ people: Lost in a lot of the wider discussion of college protests is that young folks having strong opinions unburdened by nuance is extremely typical? Yeah call out racism and such but in general grant students some grace in the sense of remembering you were them once.

She's been saying this for a long time. You're delusional if you think banning birth control is off the table.

(Griswold v. Connecticut is the 1965 Supreme Court ruling that legalized birth control)

@GottaLaff Trajectory will be similar to abortion. Overturn the scotus ruling, claim to let the states decide, finally move to use comstock or similar to functionally ban it nationwide

    I think calling the multitude of playable human-likes in an RPG "species" is POTENTIALLY much better than calling them "races".

    But as soon as you do that, you're saying overtly that this is a biological grouping, and therefore that traits assigned to them are biological in nature, and you should know that.

    If you then assign cultural traits to a species without calling them out as such, you have made... Let's call it... an error.

    clarkvalentine,
    @clarkvalentine@dice.camp avatar

    @LeviKornelsen There are some nifty ways to do this in fantasy adventure RPGs from separating inherited biology from cultural traits to having a big list of abilities and let players pick what reinforces their character concept.

    Lots of these phone scams can be foiled by hanging up and calling back to a number in and old bill or receipt or something. I dodged a scam like that last year. Never give out info to someone who cold calls you, regardless of caller ID or what other info they have ; hang up, call the number on your bill.

    Relying on popular understandings of elements of religions you’re not part of might steer you very wrong. For example: “immaculate conception” and “papal infallibility” do not mean what most people seem to think they mean.

    I’m certain there are more examples from Judaism and Islam than we could count.

    Publicly demanding specific actions from elected officials is fantastic, that’s a good and effective way to participate in democracy.

    You might be more effective, however, if you demonstrate an understanding of what actions those officials can and cannot legally take, and not faulting them for failing to go beyond those bounds.
