On my reading correct - if for whatever unknown reason Labor called an election before the redistribution finished, Warringah-Wentworth is a potential merged seat.

That said no reason has been suggested why Labor would throw away most of a year of a term to go to a normal election in August 2024.

cloaker,

@kevinbonham can't imagine it happening, seems even less likely than a DD over housing legislation. Enjoying this account already as an aside.

@gdinwiddie interesting read on the satir model per your bio, an obvious criticism is that some issues cannot be resolved by remaining within a family dynamic (e.g irreconcilable differences and sexual abuse) but there are many families who's issues stem from communication difficulties and lack of understanding. A toolkit worth examining and adapting to for therapists I'd think, not to mention a few lessons for other intimate dynamics like partners and roommates.

cloaker,

@gdinwiddie sorry, I mean to say that for some types of problems within the family dynamic will be irreconcilable issues, thus the satir method will not work entirely in these cases. It does seem a great therapy tool for many many cases however.

cloaker,

@gdinwiddie by work I mean it will not be an appropriate therapy in these cases. Aspects such as involving families and repairing communication breakdown might not be appropriate in severe cases of dysfunction or where abuse is taking place within the dynamic. It's not necessarily a problem, not every therapy should be catch all but it is something I thought of. I'm not discounting it's worth in other situations, just saying that there are situations beyond the scope of the method.

cloaker,

@gdinwiddie no, but logically anyone can see there are severe cases where a family dynamic will break down irreparably. Divorces and abuse can cause this. This isn't always the case and there would also be cases where the satir method will work even in these extreme cases. All I'm saying is sometimes you're not driving a nail and the hammer isn't the right option. I wanted to provoke a conversation, not to insult.

  • cloaker,

@koosli big difference and a difference that matters in moderation. The amount of uncomfortable stuff sometimes on /r/aus re: treaty native title and the ref'dum was painful

    cloaker,

@aby @koosli not exactly racist stuff but talking down to people regarding their position on recognition in the constitution, and people pretending the position on treaty now isn't deserving of respect when it absolutely is. I don't agree but to native people who believe it's a violation of their sovereignty it's very important to not submit to the government or be treated as their subjects.

I'm still laser focused on the @pixelfed app, but I now have a lot of experience with React Native and building production Android/iOS apps.

My goal is to lay the framework and basics for the Kbin app, in the open, and encourage the Kbin community to contribute and steward the direction.

Ultimately, my goal is to work closely with @ernest and for him to have veto over any changes I make until it's formally handed over.

    cloaker,

@dansup @pixelfed @ernest would be awesome to have the app open sourced. Would love to help.

I said this before, but clearly, it needs a stand-alone toot.

    trying to join the is

    ...Russia asking to join NATO.

    ...Exxon asking to join Greenpeace.

...The Big Bad Wolf offering to help you build your wolf-proof house.

    This is not rocket surgery.

The whole reason people built the Fediverse was to get away from the way of Internetting.

Never let them join our club.

    cloaker,

@andyc @nattiegoogie the whole point of fedi is to step away from the centralised corpo run content that Facebook is. The fediverse will slowly grow and more and more may see it is as a viable alternative with UX improvements and as it becomes more mainstream. What we don't need is a company like meta coming in with a healthy serving of ads and making their money off of our words by federating to our servers.

Call me old-fashioned, but if a car kills people at ten times the rate of other cars,
the company covers up the data,
and the CEO lies to the public and says the cars are saferโ€ฆ

I think that CEO should go to jail on fraud charges.

@devnull @protecttruth the simple fact is the US government gives zero fucks about regulatory oversight anymore. Anyone with a bit of money can control them and get what they want, when they want.

The idea that LLM fiction could suffice for entertainment or that LLM written news articles (which would require much more guidance than the fiction, assuming we want to produce, well, mostly true news) could make do for your daily check in on whatโ€™s happening in the worldโ€” is disturbing since it assumes nothing will ever be created or happen that goes beyond the basic established categories for stories as we know them. Itโ€™s fundamentally conservative.

    cloaker,

@futurebird I think re: news, it's not really a true claim to suggest LLMs couldn't create real news with guidance. This is pretty true with fiction too. They are designed to make convincing language that a human might write. You can give it instructions, tell it to edit heavily, over and over again, add finishing touches etc. I don't think you should or that it's necessarily a good thing but we totally can.
