I have a new hand sewing machine, and I'm unstoppable!!!!!!

And it even came with a bit of yarn and fabric to test it on :3 #diy #sewing

TIL: yt-dlp can just read the Firefox (and other browser's) cookie database, and login to many websites before extracting the video URLs 🤯

In my case: adding the parameter --cookies-from-browser firefox:~/.mozilla/firefox/<profile-folder> to the command line

Dann ist mir aufgefallen, dass "Steffen Hebestreit" ein Anagram von "the Steffen Seibert" ist.

Ich finde, das solltet ihr wissen.

how to summon a coffee:

1. arrange five cups in a pentagon
2. lay lines of coffee beans between each of them, and a circle around them touching each of them
3. place one coffee machines in the middle of the circle
4. put the beans into the coffee machine
5. close your eyes and say the magic words: "Coffee ghosts, awake! Me!" while pressing the button on the coffee machine
6. you should hear a loud noise while the coffee ghosts are waking up and flow into your cup
7. enjoy your coffee

You know it's a good evening when your hands first smell of oak, then of linseed oil, and then of beeswax :3

The result was two short hand-tool-only projects: first two simple smartphone stands from a live-edge scrap of oak, then while waiting for the linseed oil to harden, a leather sewing exercise in the form of a holder for a small block plane. Took about two hours each, excluding the time waiting for the oil, which is still not completely dry yet…

The holder for the small block plane is made from brown leather, about the color of milk chocolate. It is sewn together with black thread to form a funnel shape, which is sewn closed at the narrow end. A small hand plane made from brass sits on top of the opened flap on the wide end, which can be closed with a press fastener. Below is a turquoise cutting mat on a table, and there are some leatherworking tools and leather scraps scattered around in the background.
The hand plane sits fully inside the leather holder, and the flap has been closed. From this angle it can be seen that the flap is also sewn to the wide end of the funnel with black thread.

I finally found a good offer for a hand-cranked grinder on the local classifieds. The seller didn't know the model, but the "Ixion" logo was still recognizable to me – an old German make, probably from the 1930s, that usually goes for twice the asking price… 🙂

It only needed a bit of light clean up with soap and a wire brush. The insides were still good as new, but the screw hole holding the hand crank tight needed a small reminder that it once was an M5 thread…

Everything disassembled on the workbench, next to screw drivers, wrenches, latex gloves, a bowl of soapy water and a tooth brush.
The cover of the machine case has been opened, and two well-oiled sets of transmission gears can be seen between the hand crank shaft and the grinding wheel shaft.
The machine body is held in a vice, and the screw hole in the crank shaft is being recut with a hand-held thread cutter.
