@GossiTheDog "Micro$oft has mitigated the acquired MSA key…" but has the underlying security issue that allowed such cross-service access also been "mitigated"?
@exchgr@bytebro@HarryLeRoy Mastodon is waaay too young to tell. Twitter was a free, micro-blogging platform when it started; they even called themselves as much, but then again, the term "social media" hadn't been invented yet.
@exchgr in its current state, I'd say it's just a taxi service without the necessary regulation. Anything else just hides the ugly. It has come very-very far from its roots as a ride-share service, a business model that was never really about "business" and more about "decongesting roads" and "reducing emissions".
@exchgr I remember a phase where literally every hackathon and launchpad in my hometown of Pune would have at least 2 ride-share apps and I was always the "asshole" that asked them to demonstrate some semblance of a business model.
Pleasantly surprised at the social-media traffic around #Gaza:
Not seeing anyone trying to justify Hamas’ theofascist thuggery
A little bit of pro-Bibi kill-all-the-Gazans snarling
A whole lot of realism - Hamas are assholes, but let’s not pile another war crime on top of theirs, and Gaza is prison with abusive jailers, and the current Israeli govt is full of genocide-curious stone racists
Well, TBF, David doesn't really get any better in the next few episodes; I'd argue he actually gets more annoying. But, then again, it's just the first few episodes of the revival, so I'm inclined to stick around to see where it goes... even if I'm not currently impressed.
Have you thought atall, for even a minute, about the business model of OpenAI?
In one sentence: "We will take every actual human-created content, the golden egg, from everyone, without permission, and then we will use it to sell plausible made-up shit, simultaneously choking out the creation of all new human-created content, the goose."
Ponzi was vastly more sophisticated than this.
I've long regarded extractive capitalism as corrupt, but I had no idea they were all so stupid.
I feel like LLMs are our age's manifestation of "a hundred monkeys at a typewriter writing Shakespeare." Except it's non-deterministic automatons, an oxymoron if we needed one, spewing cheap, user aggrandizing knock offs.
if there’s one thing i’ve learned from a decade in tech, it’s that optimization and automation are forms of ossification. to me, AI seems like an extreme example of this
@natevw@exchgr it's funny how people who claim extreme outlier status are so eager to promote a solution that essentially works by reduction to the mean.
i’m just trying to watch a stupid little youtube short, and the ui persistently covers just about a third of the video. and that’s not even counting the stuff on the sides and top. no way to dismiss any of it. try any of the usual taps and you might accidentally like the video.
yeah ok, i get it youtube, you feel like you have to directly copy everything tiktok and instagram do or risk falling into obscurity. but you know what they say about good artists and such
@exchgr I find it even more amusing when people post TikToks as YT shorts but still have the TikTok UI bleed through. This one time I couldn't make sense of why there was more than one like button. 😏
