This was the only way we were able to access any email for the whole blizzard in Texas in 2021 because the rare signal that came through was so weak... This is a legit asset during disasters that is getting mothballed for what I assume is pretty marginal money, and probably has negative impacts in people in less wealthy nations too

@juliewebgirl @jernej__s @jason @tommertron @signaltap No SHIT? BRB. I need one of our accounts, and the other three GThings would be...nice I suppose.

And yes, to Google, K9 isn't Securing their ability to get all nosy in your business (tho, it actually is ... they can still collect data just as well as I can on when someone logs in, when they DL mail, attachments, etc, etc, etc.).

Mozilla/ThunderBird buying K9 probably scared them vis-a-vis Anti-Trust.

@juliewebgirl @jernej__s @jason @tommertron @signaltap Since they're letting K9 in, makes me wonder about TBird.

@kkeller I have this vision of the A-Team movie where some dumbass is going to eliminate the Antagonist.

Antagonist: "Please don't let him shoot me, that's just insulting." while dumbass is looking down the barrel trying to screw on a supressor.

I actually found that scene valid.

@GottaLaff I Love my trails around here. The County is upgrading stuff and I Thank them Profusely for Building/Fixing/Upgrading the trails.

Dunno what I would do if I couldn't go for a walk when I get stuck on something and need to walk it off.

elfin,

@GottaLaff So on my side of town they're putting in a Light Rail. BUT! They cut a hole under the freeway and built a bridge across the creek! It opens in three weeks!!! They're repaving the lot for bicyclists to park and tearing out the trashy wooden fence things (they're rotted). That's just this Week!

And they're cutting out the invasive blackberries.

I really do love these people, and I'm not shy about letting them know how much they make (the/my) world better.

In talking to a lot of people about their food habits and preferences I’ve realized that I don’t really have any element of disgust for any foods. Not sure if it’s a function of my cultural upbringing or exposure. Everything is interesting to me, very few things are disgusting. I also feel I can be uninterested in eating something without being disgusted by it.

All to say, I will defend the Cheetos burrito at Aguachiles El Tamarindo, and the grasshopper tacos at La Oaxaqueña with my last breath

@juliewebgirl @skinnylatte I can make exceptional vegan/vegetarian/carnivore meals, and I'm happy to do so. I don't like "political" vegans. They really make me grumpy. Manufactured Morality gets my undies in a bunch.

That's how I got thrown off Twitter a few years back and ended up here.

@juliewebgirl @skinnylatte I don't really eat much meat, veggies and CARBS. I run on rice and pasta (and bread) for the most part.

This article from the EFF seems naive at best. They argue that Tier 1 ISPs should not police speech, which is fair, but their proposed solution is to just let hate sites sit around and radicalize people, then have the law deal with the few who cross the line between protected speech and criminal harassment.

Below is an extensive list of all the times 'just throw more cops at the problem' has solved anything:

  1. literally not once ever.
  2. See 1.

@malwaretech Marcus? You know I like and respect you ... that being said...

Tier 1 ISPs ARE Common Carriers and Have Zero right/privilege/responsibility to filter ANYTHING. I pay for 65,535 TCP ports and another set in UDP.

You're playing the Paul Vixie Blackhole DNS/Domains Spam Game and I vehemently disagree, because it's Dangerous.

Oh my goodness I've just learned a thing about The Matrix that causes it to make a lot more sense: In the original script the humans were used as neural network compute clusters by the Machines and as a crucial component of The Matrix itself.

Which is why humans who were aware of the simulation could control aspects of The Matrix - their minds were part of its foundation.

Unfortunately the test audiences had trouble understanding this concept so the studio changed the human role to "batteries".

elfin,
@elfin@mstdn.social avatar

It's also the basic component of Neil Stephenson's "The Diamond Age: Or, A Young Lady's Illustrated Primer"

People, were the compute stack and the sexual transmission of the "virus" that turned folk essentially into a BotNet.
