They're now dragging all the devs to AI solutions with varying degrees of non-justification while also being terrified we might use it wrong.

You don't need to convince the devs, you just need to explain to the executives that they can't usefully yank on the reins and kick with the spurs at the same time.

@br00t4c I am struck by the timing of the industrial revolution and the systematic extermination of the bison. We increased emissions and apparently we also did massive intentional harm to natural carbon sinks.

If we were to magically cultivate bison capturing carbon and beavers restoring wetlands, we might buy ourselves some extra time to fix our carbon emissions.

@gsuberland My sister had a classmate in college whose parents were apparently both organic chemists with access to equipment and whatever ingredients they wanted.

They kept a secret medicine cabinet stocked with "designer" drugs they cooked up for personal use and once a year threw a drug-fueled blowout party.

@LALegault Humans judge others based on themselves and we forget others can be wildly divergent from our own contexts.

It's why the fascists all think we're trying to get one over on them because it's what they'd do.

We make the same mistake when we assume that fascists are just differently informed or haven't grasped the details.

They can be educated out of fascism, it's not a rational belief system you can debate. It just wish fulfillment for selfish evil people.

@ai6yr I have spent a lot of time getting places on foot and it's absurd how people respond to it.

You can go to the gym, get on a treadmill and pretend to walk somewhere for an hour and people are fine with it.

You can go out on the sidewalk, walk for an hour to an actual physical place and people freak out about it.

@arstechnica It still doesn't reliably set timers, control lights in my house or control my music on my devices as well as the previous non-AI Assistant did.

They can maybe finish it before they expand it.
