One of the most pernicious narratives in American political circles is that the Clinton era Oslo Accords "solved" the Israeli-Palestinian peace process and would have provided for a Palestinian state by now if only Palestinians had cooperated. In fact, the agreement was always deeply flawed, deliberately did not address any of the major issues in contention, and was rendered moot soon after the assassination of Yitzhak Rabin.

The Oslo Accords were undermined from the beginning through their vagueness, by the assassination of Rabin, the rise of right-wing hardliners like Netanyahu, the dramatic and continued expansion of West Bank settlements, Israel's refusal to withdraw militarily, Israel isolating Gaza and the West Bank politically and economically, the corruption and complicity of Abbas and the Palestinian Authority, the Second Intifada, ongoing Hamas terror attacks, and Israeli favoritism by the US and Europe.

They think we're being intentionally mean and making things up when we point out we can't afford housing, groceries, or healthcare, that most of us are exhausted, overworked and underpaid, that soaring rhetoric without action leaves much to be desired as red states grind us into pulp, that the mindless bipartisan pursuit of cheap gas is literally killing the planet, that genocide is bad, or that democracy only seems to be working for the white and wealthy in this country.

I have said repeatedly: by all means, Israel should go arrest and prosecute Hamas members for acts of terror. But that doesn't require destroying entire cities or blowing families to bits. That's how cowards and murderers do things. You know, like Hamas.

Israel has been a genocidal apartheid state acting in violation of international law my entire life. It's also a rich, nuclear armed regime. It doesn't need special protection. It doesn't deserve special treatment. It doesn't have moral authority. It's just another colonial regime imposing its will through violence.

Biden admits US weapons have been used to kill Palestinian civilians and is now, belatedly, threatening to withhold further weapon shipments if Israel invades Rafah, which Netanyahu has already pledged to do.

So what's Biden's beef with protesters if he's basically admitting they're right?

Most Americans would be a-okay if someone just randomly shot Trump dead. Or if he went to prison. Or literally, if he faced any accountability whatsoever. It's only other wealthy white people who think it would be the end of the world and probably only because they're just as corrupt and shitty as he is. And that's what's driving a lot of elite behavior right now, I think.

There isn't any deep thought going on in American diplomatic and policymaking circles. 9/11 acted as a rubber stamp on their worst racist impulses and many never looked back.

At most, the Biden administration worried about how ironclad support for Israel would play with voters, and they ultimately decided they didn't give a fuck.

Despite talking up "the peace process," no modern Democratic president has shown any interest in the Palestinian side of the equation, preferring to hammer them with the Israeli government's cynical and sabotaging demands instead and using Hamas, who also negotiate in bad faith, as a pretext for endless genocidal violence against all Palestinians.

The Israeli government has made clear, repeatedly, it is not interested in a one or two state solution or any peace that includes the return of territory or the recognition of a Palestinian state, which renders negotiations pointless.

Nevertheless, it is bipartisan US policy to pretend this is not true and to blame all failures on Hamas, often insisting no negotiations are possible as long as Hamas exists, giving cover for Israel to continue attacking all Palestinians.
