Cool perspective shift. Ascending the main trail chute, then looking back at it later through the notch below Aiguille Extra.

We got to trail crest a few minutes before the sun broke over the horizon so it was nice to watch both horizons transform with color.

Day 3 of trail maintenance last week wrapped the water control by the new gabion net, then loads of tread work. Photos never show the magnitude of tread work but it was a lot of mudslide relocation (tons of dirt).

Tread work is my favorite, but it’s for sure the most back breaking. Takes a full week off from running to recover. Looks like a new project just posted for next week a little further up trail.

Three people at work have called in sick with Covid recently. I’ve also noticed when people speak of Covid now they’re talking about their 2nd, 3rd etc infection. With the growing data about compounding health issues and increased chance of long Covid after multiple infections, it’s unfortunate how much of a casual blind eye people are still putting on this.

(Old pics) a number of years back a fairly large production sprang up at the rocks lasting weeks. Something about the angles of the tarped set pieces immediately spoke Trek to me. When shooting ended they left the tarps off and the signature look was revealed. Eventually the Picard series trailer came out and the rumors were confirmed (last pic).

Sunday long run up Pacifico mountain. PCT south from Mill Creek to Fountainhead spring then off trail back over the summit with a nap up top. The higher, eastern San Gabriel mountains still have lots of snow, but it’s getting hot and the sun feels intense again.

Escalation timeline of Oceanwide big bombs:

Nightmares Come True (SD,LA), Risky Business (LA): first multi-story crew letter pieces. On The Run (LA), HAPHO (LA): first blockbuster (crew & solo) multi-story paintovers (Hopes up top repping all our high hopes).

Believe No Woman (LA): first blockbuster paintover on the big tower, main side.

Metro Transit Assassins (LA) and Let’s Create Kultura (SJ) hit main next.

Shoot To Kill (LA) filled the gap.

Then SAUTE (LA) got the center (rappelled from the top Friday night).

Not my pictures, captured from social media videos. A collage showing different views of the first multi-story blockbuster style crew letter paintover to appear on the main side of the biggest of the three towers at Oceanside plaza. The crew is originally from San Diego but now based in Los Angeles and their acronym originally stood for Believe No Woman.
Not my pictures, captured from social media videos. A collage showing changes to the main side of the big tower at Oceanwide plaza. Two images are different angles showing the addition of two more large blockbuster style crew letter paintovers from two more Los Angeles crews that go by the names Metro Transit Assassins and Let’s Create Kultura. The third image shows a new blockbuster has been added by the Los Angeles crew named Shoot To Kill. Also, down the center of the building’s windows where there are no balconies to sand on, the letters SAUT (unfinished SAUTE) have been added vertically covering 12 stories. He rappelled down the side of the building Friday night, but was interrupted in progress (arrested, he’ll be back).

I can’t get enough of the yucca blooms this spring. They have so much presence. Nice morning with the low clouds burning off.

Spring is popping around the yard. Fig tree is starting and the yellow carpet is bordering the backyard trail. These little blue things start adding color in numbers also.

@massivelyop It’s not really that big of a deal but I feel sorry for them. The amount of work it takes to manage content on a live service game is astronomical (let alone cross platform).

(rant) It’s unbelievable that live service has become the primary games business model. It’s hilariously unsustainable. Don’t tell anyone but they’re all out there held together with glue and rubber bands and running on fumes and a prayer 🫣 especially the big ones.

Trail conditions for the top half above 6,000 feet were snowy, maybe 2 to 6 inches. Curious how it’ll be after the storm this week.

Variety of sleep and nap stops going out and back.

Nice bivy spot for a couple hours pre dawn Saturday. Long nap in the grass Saturday afternoon watching clouds. Long bivy under a rock out of the wind storm Saturday night. Long dirt nap Sunday aft reclining on a sun warmed rock.

Spontaneous stop and drop is key 🤗

Spontaneous PCT yo-yo up Mt Gleason from home this weekend. Camped at Messenger flats and came down Sunday (nice to get two big days). Chatted with Ranger Todd at the North Fork station. He said he hasn’t seen anyone in two weeks. That’ll change in a month.

Significantly more climbing day one (going up the mountain after all) but unrolling that elevation gain day two is always the greater strain.

Big 20 degree f temp fluctuations in the afternoons going in and out of canyon shade. Forecast was low of 28 but it only went to 40. We’ve got 12 hours of usable light now also, pretty much 6-6.

Temperate and humidity graph for day one showing high and low of 86.1 and 40.6 and 64.5% and 20.5%
Watch tracker data showing 23.66 miles with 3419 feet of elevation gain for day two
Temperature and humidity graph showing highs and lows of 87.7 and 43.4 and 56.4% and 19.6%

Thread to share some and that constitute the actual broad ranging “culture” and “scene” (🤮hate those words) of trail running in the US for ordinary masses of humans across countless cities and 50 states beyond just 2 elite niche races in the tiny towns of Auburn California and Silverton Colorado (👀 Western States & Hardrock) that people seem to think represent trail running in the US.
