Found a picture of the abomination on reddit, just look at this.

Slyly shrinking the pack is one thing but doing so AND increasing the price is a blatant poke in the eye.

I'm tempted to put the sheep on Lidl own brand now.

I hate to give you more to worry about, but if you're going to make wise choices, you'll need to know what's happening now and what's coming in the future.

So here is the latest grim news...

"We could be 16 years into a methane-fueled 'termination' event significant enough to end an ice age"

Ice age terminations typically occur in three phases. The initial phase is characterized by a gradual rise in methane and CO2, leading to global warming over a few thousand years. This is followed by a sharp increase in temperatures fueled by a burst of methane, leveling off in a third phase lasting several thousand years.

"Within the termination, which takes thousands of years, there's this abrupt phase, which only takes a few decades," explained Euan Nisbet, a professor emeritus of Earth Sciences at the University of London. "During that abrupt phase, the methane soars up and it's probably driven by tropical wetlands."

Methane is a powerful greenhouse gas released both by human activities — including fossil-fuel burning, landfills, and agriculture — and natural processes, such as decomposition in wetlands. Human emissions soared in the 1980s with the expansion of the natural gas industry and stabilized in the 1990s.

But in late 2006, something "very, very odd" happened, said Nisbet. Methane started rising again, but there was no dramatic shift in human activity to blame — and researchers were left scratching their heads. Then, in 2013, Nisbet and his colleagues realized this rise was accelerating. By 2020, methane was increasing at the fastest rate on record, he said.

"It looks as if there's a big new methane source turning on," Nisbet said.

    If your human factors team designs a safety system that requires operators to be paying close attention 100% of the time, they're only pretending to design a system to keep humans safe. I think the same is true of LLM-generated code: if you're assuming people will review it all carefully before putting it into production, I think the real purpose of your process & procedures is to keep the blame off the AI.

    jupiter,
    @jupiter@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

    @gvwilson don't use LLM code in any L1 or higher projects, and probably not in C20 or C50 and larger.

    easy way to empirically guess the complexity of an algorithm:

    measure elapsed time with 100, 1000, 10000 elements etc;

    1. time factor ~1 = O(1). excellent.

    2. times differ by decreasing factor approaching 1: O(log n). good.

    3. if the time approximately scales by constant factor 10 every step up, you're in O(n). acceptable.

    4. a scale a bit greater than 10 approaching 10 means O(n log n). not great, not terrible.

    5. constant factor 100 every step up means O(n²). that's just awful.

    jupiter,
    @jupiter@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

    @lritter
    6. if test with 1000 elements finishes, but with 10000 seems to run forever, O(exp(n)), I'm not even mad, that's impressive.

    The police shot a 63 year old man while trying to evict him from his home. The elderly man had been taken in by "sovereign citizen" conspiracy theories much to his son's frustration.

    These theories made him more vulnerable to police violence. He also may not have been mentally well.

    The house he was evicted from used to belong to his brother, but a corporation recently bought it for $25,000, then evicted him.

    This story is a nexus of senselessness.

    Game mechanics:

    I'm one of the few souls on the planet that believes that item durability is, in fact, a fun mechanic.

    I am building two stats around this into jupiter.blue:

    Condition and Quality.

    Condition is a basic "if it drops to 0%, it's inoperative", but Quality is an inherent stat affecting Condition decay and status effects.

    Condition can be restored, even in space, by the player.

    Quality is more of a one-way street, a jury-rigged gun will never become "Mastercraft" quality again.

    jupiter,
    @jupiter@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

    @hmans If it's a lot of work to deal with, or constantly triggers loss aversion, even numbing the player to it (looking at you, Breath of the Wild!), it's never fun, even if on paper it constantly mixes up the game play.

    I believe there is inherent pleasure in using downtime to address wear and tear issues in equipment. If it doesn't feel like a total chore.

    That feeling when you polish your new bike after the first longer ride? That's zero percent chore, all pride and care and appreciation.

    The video covers one lunar day, from sunrise to sunset, which is what Chandrayaan-3 will experience before it fades away into the long cold lunar night.

    @barrygoldman1 @AkaSci Extreme temperatures are the biggest issue.

    I would not have expected Chandrayaan-3 to remain operative forever, but I would have expected at least a couple lunations.

    The Moon is our front porch, and that already trashes our gadgets as soon as night falls? Wow.
