  • It is always a wonderful day when you can spot a Monarch butterfly!

Her wings perfectly extended to show off her lovely orange and black colors, she gently rests on a stalk of goldenrod.

Also called the Milkweed butterfly, the Monarch is an endangered North American Butterfly. Loss of habitat and food have made this long distance migratory wonder of nature at risk of disappearing. https://fineartamerica.com/featured/the-monarch-and-the-goldenrod-karen-cook.html

In an effort to ward off the bitter cold of a winter day in Nova Scotia, this gentle dove has ruffled her feathers and huddles in a pocket of snow as the snowflakes swirl through the air. . One of nature's tricks that allows these beautiful creatures to survive the cold. Her eyes are closed against the snow as she catches a moment's nap... https://fineartamerica.com/featured/all-by-myself-karen-cook.html

"If you have the urge, don't be afraid to go on a wild goose chase. What do you think wild geese are for anyway?". Will Rogers

Is there a sight (or a sound) more indicative of autumn and the approach of winter, than Canada Geese migrating south?

The sound of honking and gabbling grabbed my attention as I walked along the trail on a mid-October morning. Looking up, I spotted not one but three flocks of Canada Geese flying.

A close up look at the black leather boot, stirrup and leg position associated with English Equitation. A correctly positioned foot will have the heel just below the stirrup bar and offers stability to the rider that allows the leg to absorb the the movement of the horse. As you learn to ride...the one thing you will hear over and over again until it is ingrained in your mind is 'heels down'. https://fineartamerica.com/saleannouncement.html?id=e30607d3313f445469f4cc0535a25272 Thank you to the buyer in Pennsylvania for your purchase!

  • I love the common milkweed plant. From Spring to Autumn, it undergoes such a dramatic change. From the green leaves with their stunning blooms in early Spring, to the the development of the seed pods that resemble cucumbers or pickles (I think so) in Summer and then finally in late Autumn, the explosion of the seed pods, with their wispy threads clinging to the seeds waiting to soar on the breeze.

In 1953, a man in Pugwash discovered an underground deposit of salt.

Since then the Canadian Salt Company has been mining salt from what is the only salt mine and only underground mine in operation in Nova Scotia. With shafts extending down into the earth at depths of 1000 feet, into working rooms of salt with diameters of 30 x 55 feet, the refinery produces over 1.2 million tonnes of salt per year. https://fineartamerica.com/featured/salt-mine-pugwash-nova-scotia-karen-cook.html

In Sheffield Mills, they host a festival known as the Eagle Watch. It is an opportunity to view the largest population of Bald Eagles east of the Rocky Mountains.

On this winter day, the Eagles were content to stay perched in the trees as the sunlight cast long shadows on the pristine snow. The raptors were silent, waiting and watching in the shadows. https://fineartamerica.com/featured/in-the-shadows-of-the-eagles-karen-cook.html

What a view!

On a day trip through the scenic south shore of we stopped in the rural seaside community of Chester Basin.

Stopping to admire the view on the public wharf...the sun was reflecting on the thin layer of ice that covered the water in the tranquil basin. Not a wave to disturb the mirror-like reflection. https://fineartamerica.com/featured/chilling-in-chester-basin-karen-cook.html

The walls and sally port of Fort Anne National Historic Site in Annapolis Royal Nova Scotia. The trees are bare of leaves and there is a feeling of solitude in the first snow of the season https://fineartamerica.com/featured/winters-watch-karen-cook.html?newartwork=true

@Rasta Thanks . AR is stunning no matter what the season. What I like is the fact there are no tourists there at that time of year to get in my shot, lol Here is another one...

@Rasta I don't like winter but for some reason I HATE November more...so dreary and gray. At least sometimes the snow is pretty. Like you...I hate driving in winter. Thankfully my husband is an excellent driver..

It is Spring and love is definitely in the air! This male Ring-Necked Pheasant is determined to catch the eye of this female pheasant, who doesn't seem the least bit interested!

His feathers are bright in the spring sunlight, his red cheek patches are engorged, and that tail! He is magnificent and she is more interested in finding something to eat. The pheasant follies have started https://fineartamerica.com/featured/pheasant-follies-karen-cook.html

Lunenburg was founded in 1753 & is home to the schooner Bluenose, featured on the Canadian dime. The harbor is filled with pleasure craft, sailboats, and fishing boats of all types.

It is hard to know where to look first...the water is so blue, the fairways so green, and the buildings are so colorful. Across the harbour is the distinct red of the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic...https://fineartamerica.com/featured/colorful-lunenburg-karen-cook.html #

For the many years this lovely rose bush has bloomed in our garden, never has it bloomed so late in the year.

It is Remembrance Day, or Veterans Day...the 11th day of the 11th month...a day we solemnly remember those brave military men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice so we can live in freedom

I dedicate this rose to them.

Turned it off, then on again and all is well again. But no, I have to leave it off.
It only affected Mastodon, oddly.

media cannot be loaded load media remotely

I can't see images on mastodon today. it seems to be across servers. Tusky and Fedilab show the above message, (see the first screenshot). Media sometimes won't load when I tap on Load Media Remotely .
The Mastodon default app shows no text, just the blurry shape you see in the second screenshot.
