The ability of some people to celebrate the deaths of people with whom they had political and associated disagreements, ignoring the fact that these people usually have family and friends and others who cared about them, is disgusting beyond measure. I will soft or hard block such users here when they reply in such ways on my threads.

If you don't have something nice to say about the dead, don't say anything. Show some humanity even when you think it's not deserved by the individual involved. You should want to be better than them, not embracing their worst aspects.

It's challenging when it is a person who blocked universal healthcare, resulting in the death of many.
Though ultimately voting to allow ACA to pass, even if a lesser ACA.
That saved the lives of many compared to pre-ACA

Capital Corridor considers outlets to be a feature at nearly every seat, allowing riders to work or play while traveling

I've never seen a good study of the ages of users vis-a-vis other social media, but my suspicion is it trends comparatively older, which may be why there are so many interesting people here compared with the others, given the MAGA crowd is sucked in mainly by the legacy platforms. Just speculating, but yeah.

In effort to cause Democrats to lose elections, California Sen. Wiener wants new cars to be limited to 10mph over posted speed limits. - https://abc7.com/california-speed-limits-proposed-bill-governors/14358919/

A lot of people die when hit by cars.
A 10mph increase in speed greatly increases the risk of death when there is a collision.
My question is why a vehicle is allowed to go 10mph faster than speed limit.
Remember, no penalty, the car just can't speed.

An electric car takes up the same amount of space on the road as a gas car, and causes the same traffic deaths as a car.

Lauren's Blog: In Support of Google’s Progress On AI Content Choice and Control

    https://lauren.vortex.com/2023/10/26/in-support-of-googles-progress-on-ai-content-choice-and-control

    Last February, in:

Giving Creators and Websites Control Over Generative AI

    https://lauren.vortex.com/2023/02/14/giving-creators-and-websites-control-over-generative-ai

I suggested expansion of the existing Robots Exclusion Protocol (e.g. "robots.txt") as a path toward helping provide websites and creators control over how their contents are used by systems.

Shortly thereafter, publicly announced their own support for the robots.txt methodology as a useful mechanism in these contexts.

While it's true that adherence to robots.txt (or related webpage Meta tags -- also part of the Robots Exclusion Protocol) is voluntary, my view is that most large firms do honor its directives, and if ultimately moves toward a regulatory approach to this were deemed genuinely necessary, a more formal approach would be a possible option.

This morning Google ran a livestream discussing their progress in this entire area, emphasizing that we're only at the beginning of a long road, and asking for a wide range of stakeholder inputs.

I believe of particular importance is Google's desire for these content control systems to be as technologically straightforward as possible (so, building on the existing Robots Exclusion Protocol is clearly desirable rather than creating something entirely new), and for the effort to be industry-wide, not restricted to or controlled by only a few firms.

Also of note is Google's endorsement of the excellent "AI taxonomy" concept for consideration in these regards. Essentially, the idea is that AI Web crawling exclusions could be specified by the type of use involved, rather than by which entity was doing the crawling. So, a set of directives could be defined that would apply to all AI-related crawlers, irrespective of who was doing the crawling, but permitting (for example) crawlers that are looking for content related to public interest AI research to proceed, but direct that content not be taken or used for commercial Generative AI chatbot systems.

Again, these are of course only the first few steps toward scalable solutions in this area, but this is all incredibly important, and I definitely support Google's continuing progress in these regards.

For all of the obits I'm seeing for Senator , one thing I'm not seeing and I feel really needs to be talked about more is that fact that she died in office. A 90 year old senator. When we complain about how old congresspeople are, Feinstein was part of the problem.

Feinstein might have had a great legacy, but she should have stepped aside a lot sooner. She's now just another boomer that refused to retire.

How much is the average age decreasing now?

Don't fall for firms pushing "voice verification" bypasses.

A suggestion. If a firm you deal with offers to sign you up for a "voice verification" service that bypasses PINs, passwords, etc., you would be wise to decline. There are increasing reports of online AI voice generators being used to defraud customers via these systems. And the situation is likely to only be getting worse.

    1. Evacuate early if you are worried. Many survivors with videos made it out as their neighbors were waiting for someone to tell them to leave, or were saying "the fire department will put it out".
