For almost 4 decades I have been obsessed with . I air drummed all over everything. I spent a good 8 years playing the crap out of Rock Band's Pro/Expert drum mode and destroying at least 3 of those fake plastic toys. But it DID teach me some fundamentals...

Today, at 47 years old, I finally have the real thing. (Sure, they're digital drums, but you get my meaning.)

This is my drum kit. There are many others like it, but this one is mine.

(Yes, area rug is incoming...)

My wife took this shot of Kirk Hammett last night at Stade de France. To me, it captures the pure joy of live music and heavy metal.

The top ~50 Google searches are people typing in websites without the .net or .com because they can't remember the full domain name. (Including "google" which is hilarious.)

Is this a sad reflection on society, or proof that we need a more advanced search engine that actually answers questions rather than simply serving up promoted links and SEO-optimized clickbait.

I'm tentatively excited about this rumored ChatGPT search engine, even if I still have reservations about the future of AI.

This came up on shuffle today, so it’s the perfect opportunity to remind you that @joeressington is an awesome musician.

Go find this album on Bandcamp!

In the entire history of computing, there has never been a more important time to teach people about than right now.

(And never a worse time for me not to be doing @Linux4Everyone -- so I hope my fellow YouTube and content creators will double down and show people the light!)

I’ve been playing and enjoying games like Virtua Tennis 4 for more than a decade, and these jokers want to come along and say “we’re absolutely shutting down your SINGLE PLAYER game in two years.”

Me: Drops $300 on hardware to spin up a local Plex server without even blinking.

Also me: Spends two hours internally debating $20 on food delivery versus making dinner, then feels guilty about it.

Why am I like this? 😅

Today, I finished my first EP!

I could spent an infinite amount of time polishing these songs (after all, songs are never finished, only abandoned) but they represent a part of my past. I started 2 of these in 2017.

Now it's time to send these off into the world & move forward to what's next. But I have to say I'm thrilled about this collection of songs, and I hope you'll enjoy once it gets released.

Next step: a logo and spinning up the marketing engine.

I'm flying to tomorrow for All Hands 2023, and I am PUMPED about it!

Finally, get to meet the entire @thunderbird team in person to plan out our 2024 + 2025 roadmap, and do all the planning surrounding several product launches coming up 😉

Not to mention networking with everyone at Mozilla. It's going to be a fun, fantastic, and productive week!

Just got the Fakespot beta in Firefox. It's a feature that checks Amazon reviews (and other retailer sites) for reliability and then adjusts the rating.

It uses AI to detect fake or unreliable reviews. This was for a smart LED light bulb set originally rated 4.6 with 13,000 ratings. . .

And I'm seeing this kind of aggressive adjustment in rating for about half the products I'm browsing.

It's estimated that roughly 20% of all songs uploaded to streaming services have not even played ONCE.

That's literally tens of millions of songs sitting on servers, consuming storage space, and consuming electricity.

With the rise of -generated tracks, look for those numbers to increase exponentially.

It's not just the onslaught of (most crappy/derivative) content we need to worry about -- it's the ecological footprint.
