There's a couple of Kyma Pacamara Ristetto on eBay at the moment. One side of me says I should get one and review it. A larger side of me says you already know it's just going to be MaxMSP for fancy people.

You are probably asking what the fuck is a Kyma Pacamara Ristetto and does it come with pumpkins spice? And that's a good question.

Struggling through this book at the moment. M Faber has popularity in novels - decided to write a book about many aspects of popular music. The first few chapters summarise the things that music makers and academics worry about. This is good and helpful to outsiders.

It keeps rolling with a showbag of other music concerns of varying importance and quality forming a dissatisfying ramble. It becomes very much articles best posted online in a blog.

Remember STEM? Remember when children were destined to all become programmers? Back then you couldn’t move for STEM toys in the discount bin. Here’s a drumming robot I got for ten bux and finally assembled today. I so much know betterer about programming now. Because punched cards.

OK so BlueSky just announced federation. At this point the Mastodon submarine rocks back and forth and men run from side to side.

But seriously. It’s time for sensible debate. I am pro federation because I’m sick of posting in both places. I’m sure there are good reasons to keep up the barrier as well.

No. I’m not going to move my music from BandCamp to a pirate download site. Are you kidding?

Music is my work. I am not going to work for free. This is not a hobby.

And if I’m going to another online distributor it’s not going to be a startup run by a weekend coder with no market profile.

Profile and reputation are important. I license music for films/ads etc. They’re not going to find me on FreeStuffDownloadCats.org

Sorry but no.

Ok doing the diligence on Songtradr. They do music licensing e.g. TikTok, YouTube also traditional TVC. You pay them a fee every month to offer your tracks for synch.

They want BandCamp because a proportion of BC artists might pay this fee. If you have ambition to sell soundtracks this doesn’t hurt*

Epic Marketplace will become just one of the venues. They prob won’t fuss BC because they need lots of music.

*most of my income is from synch. If you want $ it’s important.

lardmotel,
@lardmotel@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

More… if you are with an aggregator they are likely to be trying this idea right now. I’m with Distrokid. They handle all my streaming but are looking at being a licensing company as well.

People can currently use my music on e.g. TikTok. But if they need to pay me part of the generated income I’m not getting it. A license will bring that. You have to pay somebody to do the management. That’s what is going on here.

Google has tipped into total shitland when even an utterly lazy bastard like me can’t stand it anymore.
It’s not so much the viewing history crap which I’ve disabled but -every- search leads to YouTube videos. I want to find some specific info - here’s some douche ranting about something vaguely related. Like and Subscribe! Paid Content! I’m using Firefox and I guess DuckDuckGo from now on. What a mess.

Here's a good article for the "but show us the detail" people. I used to follow Mr Synot when I had an account on the site-which-shall-not-be-named and he's always had good stuff to say (in other words, he must be right because I agree with him ;)

@dj2mn @hhhneil the odd thing being that it will cause them no loss or suffering, it won’t lower their savings or wages - it doesn’t hurt them at all but they will still vote for somebody else to get nothing.

lardmotel,
@lardmotel@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@dj2mn I’m not. No is a vote for nothing. All this verbiage is “I’d rather have nothing.” You already have that.

lardmotel,
@lardmotel@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@dj2mn My way of thinking is that you move things as far as you can when you can and then they become the norm and you do it again and again. Fabian Socialism.

It can be horribly slow (marriage etc.), but watching the yanks dragging things entirely back and forth and getting nowhere puts me off the revolutionary pathway.

Others have gone through this process so there is data:

@davidmarsh @dj2mn Yeah I was schooled by that and dropped the Greens. I did understand their tactics - but the tactics seem more about power than results.

Similar thing going on recently with housing - blocking one policy while insisting on another. It's a zero-sum way of thinking.

I think the Internet Archive has about a year or less before being closed down. They face multiple lawsuits demanding better collection management - but they have little or no curation at all.

Just go look for yourself: Taylor Swift albums jumbled up with console games, copied blu rays and random video with no tags - a real museum has direction, purpose and the IA needs to staff up and stop being a huge dumpster of random shit. Or the inevitable will happen.

lardmotel,
@lardmotel@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@EMR I don’t know but it was the sort of thing you’d first talk to the authors or their agents. That’s just polite.

lardmotel,
@lardmotel@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@tomw I remove my work from YouTube about once a month using the legal tools that they supply. Sure - I'd love it if they did it for me, but at least there's a documented means.

But saying 'them too!' doesn't really make IA look any better. It still doesn't operate like the museum to which it has pretensions.

My missus was very excited. Advert for a new toy sampling keyboard on Facebook. Looks great, easy payments, Buy Now. Called a Chompi do I want it?

Thank god the ad (‘TopSaker’) looked as dodge as fuck and a quick search brought up a quickstarter and that the toy is not yet on sale let alone from Dodgy Brothers Bullshit Emporium. Still looks good. For next year.
