I've never seen a consistent hashtag here used by Fedi musical artists when posting original material / promoting themselves. Is there one i'm missing?

The #music tag gets used for everything including someone just posting a favorite song from YouTube or whatever.

Other art disciplines have their tags that indicate "original poster" here.

Feels useful for discovery. Should be unique, indicate original music, clever and memorable, work fedi wide

Did you know today was American Painters Day? I did! And I got the chance to visit a place I've been wanting to visit for a long time: T.C. Steele State Historic Site

You should try to visit if you can and get the tour.

You get to tour the house (called House of the Singing Winds for the way the wind would sound through the screens on the wrap-around porch) and the Big Studio.

They have hundreds of paintings which they show in rotation.

A production technique I learned and used on this track:

Send your vocals to a bus. Apply effects on that bus (compression, reverb, chorus, whatever). Then send the original audio to a final compressor on that bus and duck (sidechain) the effected vocal with the original vocals. Helps keep vocals 'legible' while still giving the long tail effect you want. I think it worked fairly well here. It would punch up singing.

I really want to see #PeerTube succeed. But I don't see many videos slide across my #mastodon feed. It feels like PeerTube videos don't achieve wide federation.

I think this is because people don't follow as many PeerTube accounts and because PeerTube accounts don't post as often as Mastodon or other microblogging accounts.

Consider this... there isn't much downside to following all PeerTube accounts that you come across and boosting their posts because they are few and infrequent.

In this case, hundreds of LPs of the soundtrack to Roots are precisely cut into squares, each elevated at various distances from the wall. In the middle, a box where the sleeves of the LPs have been cut and stacked so that the alternating 13 stripes of the US flag are blank or have the album name. In the corner, a turntable. The effect is striking in person.

Running community radio is hard work. It usually takes dozens of people to manage. #radiofreefedi was built and is maintained by one person, largely.

I've had luck to peek inside a major community radio station (KXCI) and what has been accomplished so far by RFF is amazing by comparison.

Consider this a fundraising drive to ensure RFF can endure in 2024.

Can you imagine being an auteur of any kind (filmmaker, musician, photographer, painter, writer, etc) and a fan of yours wants to experience your art but cannot because the studio/label/etc has not made it available to them in any way? Must be infuriating.

At least independent artists have control over what they make available and how. But we struggle to find an audience.

There needs to be a way to connect independent artists of all kinds with audiences. A hub that matches up interests.
