Ceaseless tinkerer. I do open source stuff for #Valkey at AWS. Ex-#bottlerocket. Ex-#OpenSearch. Ex-#Redis. Spare time pursuits: #3dprinting, #OpenSCAD, #gardening. Interested in building a greener future with technology. he/him

Welp. It's official. is no longer

While I wasn't a contributor to the core, I presented on it dozens of times, talked to thousands, and wrote a book about it.

I probably wouldn't have done any of that with that kind of license.

Very disappointed.

From one of the non-Redis Inc leadership team members before the license change:

That was quick.

Linux Foundation launches , a continuation of development from 7.2.4 with the same BSD 3-Clause license.

You want to do be a solid?

I'm stupidly close to going over a few thresholds on Printables.

If you've got an account over there, I would appreciate any downloads or likes but especially on these two models:

https://www.printables.com/model/533422-minimal-pegboard-paper-towel-roll-holder-fully-par

https://www.printables.com/model/184727-print-flat-and-fold-case-for-raspberry-pi-zero-2-w

Part of this to stop hovering right below badge/award levels and I'm also very curious what kind of push the Fediverse has for this kind of thing.

I published a blog post on #Valkey at AWS.

"#Redis broke with the community that helped it grow and left them stranded. This community is now unbound and will continue to use and contribute to the project as they have always done, and with more freedom. "

Off to Austin for @TexasLinuxFest!

I’ve got two (very different) talks:

The first ever conference talk on and one about container Linux (featuring and several other great distros).

After Austin I fly directly to Seattle for where I’ll be at the Valkey booth Tuesday to Thursday next week.

If you’re around at either event let’s connect!

Interested in and want to help the project with a non-code but super important contribution?

There is an open call for colour pallet submissions:

https://github.com/valkey-io/valkey-io.github.io/issues/55

This pallet will be used as the basis for all sorts of things: the non-placeholder website, tee-shirts, merch, giveaways, booth decorations, etc.

I've been toying writing this blog post for a while but the final nail in the coffin was a rather mellow dramatic video about and open source.

I've got 20+ years of software experience across all parts of the stack. I've worked solo, at fast-moving startups, and currently work at one of the largest tech companies in the world.

Despite all of this:

I hear about an unfamiliar piece of software. I google the name of this software and find the website devoted to it.

About 8/10 times, I can't tell from that website what the software does based on the first page.

Who are they writing this stuff for? If I can't 'get it' who does?

Super interesting video about and . A few tidbits:

  1. they're both the same size as Nashville or Raleigh but twice as dense.
  2. LRT in Edmonton is more riders than SF Muni or Max in Portland
  3. Calgary's LRT has higher ridership than SF's total system (Muni + Bart + CalTrain)

🤯

(I was a bit annoyed by the attitude of "Amazing, Alberta isn't as bad as we believed" over and over, but they were at least open minded)

Now that is public, I'm also excited to say that I've taken a new role working on the project full time.

This all happened extremely quickly but I'm really pumped to help build this community of open source contributors and users across organization.

(Also I get to talk about HyperLogLog once again!)
