One question - if is found not to have broken any law, does this not mean he's been cheated?

lorrden,
@lorrden@c.im avatar

@alexanderhay in the hypothetical case he did nothing, he should be invited back next year. But, even if he did not break a law, it doesnโ€™t mean that he did not break competition rules.

lorrden,
@lorrden@c.im avatar

@alexanderhay the case was judged by the police to be strong enough to send it to a prosecutor, after they expedited the investigation, due to the time criticality of the issue.

lorrden,
@lorrden@c.im avatar

@alexanderhay obviously not, but the police wouldnโ€™t bother passing the case on if there was no merit to it.

Several witnesses apparently exist and according to Aftonbladet, the camera was destroyed during the incident. I donโ€™t think the EBU could have done much different given the available info, but it sucks royally that they had to.

Breaking: rapist has posted a bond of nearly $92 million in E. Jean Carroll defamation case. The posted bond is exactly $91,630,000.00, which includes a districtโ€™s courts common practice of requiring a bond of 110% of the judgement.

Insurance company Chubb underwrote the $91.63 million bond for Donald Trump, which the former president signed on Tuesday, March 5.
Under the terms of the bond, Chubb will only secure the appeal of the $83.3 million judgment, not any future appeals.

Rapist got someone to give him almost exactly that amount. America has no idea who that is or who he is now beholden to, and that is unacceptable as a counterintelligence matter.

The whole world wants to know where the money to purchase the bond came from.

And U.S. intelligence needs to know.

A billionaire shouldnโ€™t need an agency to post his $90M bond. That should be chump change to a billionaire. Whereโ€™s Mr. Iโ€™m so rich when it comes to paying his bills?

lorrden,
@lorrden@c.im avatar

@skykiss billionaires typically have most assets in the form of shares / properties / other non-liquid asset. So, to pay that money you need to liquidate some assets (which could have major market impacts). Point is that getting a loan for this is nothing strange in itself.

But, given the current security environment, any creditor should probably be checked twice.

alriiiiight! @paulrickards just wrote up this fantastic tutorial on setting up your classic mac to connect to the global Appletalk network (do we have a name for this franken-net yet?)

once you're online, PM me your public IP so you can be added to our network. my Zone is "dialup.cafe" - feel free to add it to your zone list.

Important: dialup.cafe is using Network Range 20-29.

@jmaris Larger minorities is one thing, but my interest is personal, out of freedom of movement aspects. It is basically impossible to watch Swedish content in the NL at the moment so my kids Swedish is virtually non existent.

lorrden,
@lorrden@c.im avatar

@jmaris I guess asking for a single copyright title for all of the EU is a bit too much? And we have to keep ordering our physical plastic disks like in the Stone Age, because they are at least not copied but counted as goods, hence granted freedom of movement.

lorrden,
@lorrden@c.im avatar

@jmaris side note, I remember my hopeless quest to watch the Norwegian version of Kon-Tiki, when it finally showed up on Netflix in NL it was the English version (all scenes were shot twice). As it felt somewhat wrong as a Scandinavian to watch a movie about a Norwegian explorer in English, I gave up and have not yet seen it.

Let me try a argument against . Tell me how I am doing.

Compared to old telephone system, packet routed data networks are notoriously insecure. Routers are routinely hacked by not only nation states, but by โ€œhobbyistsโ€ as well. This unsafe architecture makes end to end encryption not only desired, but necessary. Data leaks occur if they can occur, among others because of unworkable IT policies or government IT infrastructure not functioning properly. Humans are focused on their tasks which is not computer security. Hence, E2E encryption for the general public is a vital fallback in a multi layer defence against data leaks.

The only place to break properly implemented E2E is on the devices, before encryption or after decryption, i.e. on the device.

So, letโ€™s look at the centralised collection of messages, pictures etc, detected with a lot of false positives, by the magical non-existing on-device AI that will not drain batteries in any way, this will be a high value target for criminal hackers, state sponsored hackers, etc. So instead of forcing the bad guys to spend a lot of resources on hacking individuals, they can focus on the single, very likely badly protected goldmine of intelligence which the central collection place will be.

lorrden,
@lorrden@c.im avatar

@helma I was thinking that, because and other proponents doesnโ€™t care if we change fundamental principles such as the presumption of innocence, maybe they do care if we start to to accidentally leak information to the enemy? I am not sure this will work, maybe they are indirectly payed off by Putin and his cronies. In fact, it would be ironically funny if we just assume that without evidence until we have seen their entire chat history. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ
