I've used #MicrosoftEdge on my #Android phone for a year or more because I got creeped out by #GoogleChrome , the recent #CoPilot AI junk appering in Edge made me install #Firefox it lasted a week. I can't believe I prefer Edge! Firefox is slower, uses far more RAM, has crashed on me several times and it doesn't appear to be able to auto complete usernames unless you also save the password ;( something I refuse to do.
I feel so dirty going back!
(I'm exclusively Firefox on my desktop machine!)
To put everyone's mind at ease, I am discussing the situation with someone at Fastly. If I can't find a way forward with them, I'll be moving off. That is unsustainably expensive, though it is a pretty amazing service.
Also, I get a lot of questions about cloudflare - the community here has expressed grave reservations about using cloudflare for a variety of reasons, and I am not inclined to go against them.
@jerry Even today I went over to infosec.exchange, and it loads photos as slow as butt, the text loads fine. I think my dad's BBS (California hotline) from 1989 loads faster.
mastodon told me they refuse to refactor. So I give up, I am not committed to this software I just have a few friends on here.
your servers aren't the problem, and I don't need to throw insults, from what I heard they have locked down their source code anyways, so it's not open source.
@jerry
I am looking at Fastly, it appears to do load balancing for you, which is kindof a necessity since you are not paying Oracle cloud or something even more expensive.
Ok, it’s only been a few hours, but the difference in performance for Infosec.exchange behind Fastly is substantial. At least to me accessing via the web interface
Ok. I am tired of Infosec.exchange being sluggish. I just submitted a crazy order with Hetzner to upgrade the instance. Hopefully the last time for a while. I ordered a dell AMD Genoa 48 core server with 256 GB of ram to act as a database and redis server, a dell 64 core sapphire rapids server with 256gb of ram to act as the single front end/puma/streaming server, and an amd 7950 with 128gb of ram to run minio (insourcing from Backblaze).
I ordered all with 10g network interfaces to be connected to the same switch.
I continue to see issues with Backblaze performance causing issues with posting.
This will consolidate the environment down from about 13 servers to 4 (I will keep using less expensive servers on 1G networks for Sidekiq if it can’t run on the sapphire rapids server.
I will be putting that behind Fastly for global distribution and ddos mitigation. I don’t know whether I’ll keep serving media via bunny.net or try to do that with Fastly also. Bunny works pretty well and is cost effective for media delivery.
@jerry I am taking a class on Data Engineering from a Meta company employee (I have no interest in ever working for big tech), but I don't mind taking courses.
I think Ruby is the bottleneck making the REST API. I am searching performance profile of Ruby.
@jerry I put a small donation in just now. So, I think for now you have the right idea, but if scaling further, the codebase needs to be refactored in a faster REST API such as Rocket.rs or old school spring-boot, instead of ruby.
The comments and abuse reports about people sympathetic to the Palestinians or to the Israelis is getting out of hand. I understand this is an incredibly charged and difficult situation for everyone. Seek first to understand before being an asshole to your fellow humans from behind the relative safety of your computer monitor, please.
@jerry this situation is stressing me out, the USA deployed two full carrier battlegroupa, my brother-in-law's activate duty air assault. I don't want him to do a tour it's stressing me out
@Sheril but it is...aside from mathematics disciplines there I see no reason to go to school in recollection. My grandmother was heavily literate and spoke better English than most Language Arts teachers due to the degeneracy of the language over time.
The television has had a negative impact on children and causes attention deficit disorder. This is why children's programming needs to be audited.
@aral in regards to women they have to do family planning very carefully for because of loss of work and potential income and possible relational instability at the same time. Then you bring race into it, and I would say the glass ceiling is ever changing, hopefully those actresses are not just "virtue signaling". Although 75% of homeless are men, the homeless rate isn't as high as the wage differential averages.
