YouTube is ruining my YouTube feed with YouTube Shorts.

(And it seems a lot of creators that I follow are making a lot of YouTube Shorts instead of actual videos)

I am not a fan.

@rae On my “big computer” I have a browser extension which hides Shorts :youtube: entirely - so that’s nice.

But on mobile… there’s more shorts than a sunny day at the beach. 🩳 🏖️

Maybe the solution here is to just stop being addicted to my phone 📱 🥹

@athairbirb I used to run a semi-popular video game forum back in the day and we had a pinned post full of affiliate links.

We asked forum users to consider using those links when purchasing games, consoles, whatever else to help support the site.

Many people used them on the release of a new console, giving the site funds about 5% commission on each order.

I’d say it is worth a shot!

@morten7an This is partly why I'm asking; I got told that STATISTICALLY people are less likely to be in an accident whilst helmetless.

Which, I dont have numbers to deny that (and imagine that changes from city-to-city).

BUT, I wonder what the injury / death rate is of accident + helmet vs accident - hemlet.

I wish I had time to discuss with everyone in the replies to this poll, but I don't.

I asked because as many have commented, it's (apparently) statistically less likely for you to be knocked off your bike if helmetless.

However, I never hear people talking about the other point; it only takes one time to be knocked on your head to be seriously injured.

So, idk, as someone that has come off their bike twice in 10+ years, I think WITH HELMET is the better option, personally.

And the Dutch / no Dutch thing? Well, its because I was having this chat in person with @shivani

I know a lot of people in Netherlands have a very safe cycling experience because they have the infrastructure for that.

But a lot of cities don't.

So I wondered if it would make a difference to the polls and with 442 answers so far, not 1 Dutch person has said YES to wearing a helmet (but 3% of respondents said No + Dutch)

how much of a bubble do we have to be in, to see Twitter as the biggest platform that needs an alternative? I am glad that @pixelfed is trying but we need a wayyyy bigger push in that direction. 90% of my friends AFK mainly use instagram for all communication online.

@liaizon I really don't think is taking a slice of 's cake any time soon, to be honest. I think if / when & adopt , they might be able to steal away a few users who want to share photos - but Instagram has its feet firmly grounded right now.

@dfh Hey Daniel! That's a good question and I don't really have the answer. 😵

I have for and not - but I presume they work the same. And I see I can click a tag and follow it in the app...

...but I'm not sure if it shows in the home feed on the app. 🤔

I'll see if I can figure it out. In the meantime, there's also nice third-party apps to try out too, like @Tusky and @tooot

Finally finished and sent a proposal for a project that I'd really love to do. After 20+ years I still don’t find it easy and constantly worry that I've either over-egged or under-egged the estimate.

I don't want to be ‘too expensive' and lose the opportunity, and neither do I want to look ‘suspiciously cheap’ like I've not read the brief properly and regret it later.

(It's never ‘bang-on’, that scenario never happens in my head).
