Is there a exchange community or group on Mastodon?

I have some chives and green onions that are going to seeds and I will have more seeds than I need.

Of course, there is our local free seeds and plants library but I would prefer to use mastodon as my main seeds resource.

Ah, so far so good. Stihl FSA57 trimmer (battery powered) works very well.. VERY quiet. Cuts the mustard (which my corded trimmer does not). Extremely lightweight, compared to every gasoline one I've used before. It was a project to order it, though. I'll probably be ordering a second because a spare battery plus charger is almost the same cost, and that will include another head, too. 🤔

Did half of the weeds on my hillside to try it out, in almost no time. That usually is a long project for me due to hassling with line, power cord and/or gasoline. Really good build quality. This model is light duty/homeowner (but we are just using it for bee yard clearing).

I would like to address here how mulching lawnmowers are detrimental to your grass and your garden.

So many times have I heard people say, spraying the grass clippings is good for the soil.

If it was true we would have understood by now how much topsoil this method can make.

And the truth here is that it creates more troubles for your soil than it fixes problems.

Because grass clippings are full of nitrogen, when they decompose they turn into bacteria. And it is those bacteria that feed the weeds we have in our lawns.

I have seen a lot of our neighbors mow every Saturday in the same pattern and do nothing but compact the soil and give bacteria to their weeds.

Very few people collect their grass clippings to use as a proper material for a compost pile.

You can give nutrients back to your soil by creating a compost pile and spraying it on your soil. This will do a much better job than your lawnmower.

Here's a crazy idea: rather than Scots and Welsh independence, England needs to be stripped of its seats at Westminster, and English should be subject to immigration controls to visit Wales, Scotland, and Ulster. Only Welsh, Scots and Ulsterites should have a say in anything.

I get a lot of 'routine' queries from companies who haven't noticed that I'm not a company myself with a large staff to answer them. But even with my extensive experience of the genre, this deserves some kind of award:

'As part of an internal inquiry regarding the use of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) within [company], we need information on whether FOSS is present in the application "SimonTatham_PuTTY" that we have obtained from you.'

Something that bothers me a lot is how basically every single bit of software that has been created in the last 10 years has major bugs.

We used to care a lot more about bugs it feels like, if something had bugs that would crash stuff, you would just not release that version, you'd work on it until those bugs were fixed; you don't release new features without removing the bugs that it introduces

These days everything is about features, because that's what sells, uptime isn't sexy anymore.

    EDIT 2023-11-13:

I am soft-deleting this post because of recent controversy around the Nivenly project all detailed here: https://twokitties.neocities.org/

    (Original post)

Keeping bad actors away from the is a problem that cannot be solved with alone. However technology is one tool we can use to reduce the negative impact of bad actors as a first line of defense.

For anyone interested using technology for keeping bad actors off of and the fedeiverse to the greatest extent possible, check out (at)Are0h(at)ubiqueros.com website: https://thebad.space/about . It has an block-list API which in my opinion should be incorporated into the Mastodon reference implementation to make it easier for instance maintainers and system operators to share and coordinate efforts. Since (as far as I can see, at the time of this writing) these features are NOT built-in to the current Mastodon reference implementation, which shows an unfortunate lack of concern and understanding by the maintainers of mastodon.social, we have to resort to these round-about means to keep malicious users from attacking our communities.

Also related is the work of @oliphant who has created a similar blocklist: https://writer.oliphant.social/oliphant/the-oliphant-social-blocklist

@MadeyeTheCarnaptious @HistoPol @djm_black I account for that with the empire, which the English imposed on both pre-partition India and on Scotland.

Mind also that the national-level Prime Minister and wrecker-in-chief is also of British Indian Empire descent, although not Muslim (my understanding is that he is Hindu).
