Journalists posting uncritical articles about AI or simply re-posting press releases from AI companies will be the first to be replaced by it.

miah,
@miah@hachyderm.io avatar

@ai6yr Based on the content I see coming out of arstechnica, I don't think they are 100% AI yet. Though I suspect that their journalists are using AI to generate the content of their article and then editing.

miah,
@miah@hachyderm.io avatar

@ai6yr I'm seeing it a lot on 'gamer content sites'.

I think I've run into a few 5e D&D sites that follow that similar format of 'how do i ___' that felt ai generated. Basically anything easy to regurgitate.

I've definitely seen it a bunch with random video game sites. Frequently it will be 'somebody on reddit posted about x they found in y game' and the ai has turned that into a article with SEO and ads.

Why couldn't Sonos devices just support the MPD protocol.

thisismissem, to random
@thisismissem@hachyderm.io avatar

So apparently MacOS 14 isn't available for devices from 2017 — so I'd need to buy a new mac, even though mine works perfectly fine, to use this app (MacOS 13 is still well supported by Apple)

Apparently Apple considers devices “vintage" when they're between 5 and 7 years old; so hardware that works perfectly well from 2017 becomes un-upgradable in 2023/24

I can't see any information on how long Apple will continue to support MacOS Ventura (13)

miah,
@miah@hachyderm.io avatar

@thisismissem This is a big part of why I stopped supporting MacOS / Apple. Its fine for businesses where they are able to write-off hardware expenses, but not for home users who want a laptop to work for a decade (or more).

I have a very usable thinkpad from 2012 that I still use frequently. My macbook from 2007 still works even! Is it "slow" by todays standards? A little, but I can still do 80% of my work from them.

Call me old fashioned but if I was in charge of a candidate's communications I'd advise against disclosing your brain looks like a moth-eaten garment.

miah,
@miah@hachyderm.io avatar

@andrew presumably somebody was going to leak that info so they tried to get in front to control the narrative. But there is no way to positively spin brain worms when your candidate is out there being extremely unconventional and spewing garbage.

Could they have paid to suppress? I doubt it. That information is literally priceless in 2024.

Will hold out for Windows12 to upgrade my gaming PC's OS.

Speaking of video game adaptations; I really loved the new #Fallout series. They nailed the feel of the game, but also delivered some fantastic storytelling. It even made me want to play the first two Fallouts just to get a little more understanding of the show.

I loved it and you might too https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/B0CN4J59BF/ref=butts

@docpop If you don't have the time to play, but want to learn the lore, I recommend 'The Storyteller' on youtubes.

Yes, yes, that's a GREAT idea, let's arm robot dogs with flame throwers! Great idea! (they are pitching this for prescribed fire burning for wildfire prevention and "snow and ice removal from driveways"... at least until they find a military buyer, I am sure). https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/company-unveil-robot-dog-companion-with-flamethrower-attached/vi-AA1nvoEb

Gentoo Linux has taken a awesome step with a new policy that bans contributions created by AI(LLM) systems.

"It is expressly forbidden to contribute to Gentoo any content that has been created with the assistance of Natural Language Processing artificial intelligence tools. This motion can be revisited, should a case been made over such a tool that does not pose copyright, ethical and quality concerns."

@ai6yr Depending on how much there is to do.. DIY. If there is like.. A WHOLE HOUSE WORTH. I might pay. But a wall or two? DIY. I feel like its a skill you can learn and DIY with good success.

Always making sure to educate yourself on what the failures look like and how to correct them. Because mistakes are going to happen, and as the Homeowner and DIY'er you can address them in a way a contractor might not as they don't care as much as you do.

there's a restaurant in my neighborhood that blasts obnoxious anti-homeless sounds. the goal i think is to repel homeless people from loitering, but i think they've ended up repelling any guests (it's so loud you can't stop hearing it from the seated parts of the restaurant)

looking forward to hearing them whine about how it's the bike lanes or the anti-car measures that have led to their demise, soon

miah,
@miah@hachyderm.io avatar

@skinnylatte There is a buddist temple on Alameda that plays these; or insect repellent noises (at least when I lived in Alameda ~5 years ago).

Wasn't sure how anybody inside could deal with that noise. It was obnoxious from the sidewalk.

An independent (maybe federated?) review site/collection, where reviews are from real, honest people but also where you can only post a review after at least 90 days of use of the product you review.

#WhatIsMissing #After90Days

@jwildeboer Harbor Freight does this. Purchases are linked to your account by phone number. After your purchase you are emailed your receipt with a link to write a review. Only verified buyers are allowed to write reviews. They do send you the email to remind to to review a product 15 days after your purchase.
