The implementation of the protocol is total crap (at least for free blogs).

I am giving up on that for longer texts.

Besides that, 's User Interface is terrible. It's far from intuitive and always tries to sell you stuff (I'm not against paid services at all, but for a simple blog, always getting paid plans shoved into one's face is more than annoying).

At least, they convinced me of one thing: If I ever want to set up a professional website, it definitely won't be a WordPress site. Either I would just get a domain and code myself or install one of the many CMS around.

I set it up to publish my WordPress blog entries on my feed. What happens is that it just publishes a teaser text with a link to the WordPress article.

For that, I don't need no integration. I can just write (or copy and paste) a small text myself and add the link.

On the other hand: Supposedly, the WordPress blog acts as a Fediverse instance, which is kind of true: I can follow it from Mastodon, but with no consequence: the posts still don't appear in my feed.

Two days ago the space probe Lucy shot past the asteroid Dinkinesh... and found it has a satellite! Most of the apparent motion in this movie is caused by Lucy zipping by at 16,000 kilometers per hour.

Lucy is going on a grand tour of the asteroids:

On 3 December 2024 it will swing back past the Earth to get a gravity assist.

On 20 April 2025 it will visit Donaldjohanson, an asteroid in the inner belt that's part of a family created by a collision involving the asteroid Erigone 130 million years ago. Yes, some asteroids come in families!

On 12 August 2027 it will pass Eurybates, an asteroid near Jupiter's Lagrange point L4. Asteroids near L4 are called 'Greeks' and asteroids near the other Lagrange point, L5, are called 'Trojans'. Eurybates is the largest member of the only knoqn collisional family among the Greek or Trojan asteroids.

On 15 September 2027, Lucy will swing by Polymele, another Greek asteroid near Jupiter's L4 point. Its red color suggests it's covered with organic compounds called 'tholins', which also give the moon Titan its reddish haze.

On 18 April 2028 it will visit Leucus, another Greek. This is a D-type asteroid, very dark red.

On 11 November 2028 it will see Orus, another Greek. This may be a binary asteroid.

Then, after a while, on 26 December 2030, it will swing by Earth again for another gravity assist! It will be the the first spacecraft to return to Earth from Jupiter's orbit. The goal is to send it over to the Jupiter's other Lagrange point, L5, where the Trojan asteroids live.

On 2 March 2033, it will visit Patroclus–Menoetius, a binary Trojan.

Guten Morgen Mina,

Seit ein paar Tagen lässt sich nun auch in Deutschland nicht mehr mit verwenden.

Ich habe deshalb mal etwas recherchiert und habe mir nun fürs das alternative @newpipe installiert.

Ich sehe bei PeerTube ein paar Probleme:

  • Im Gegensatz zu Google haben die Instanzen sehr wenig Speicherplatz.

  • Bei Videos, die von YouTube oder woanders herkommen, gerät man ganz schnell in Schwierigkeiten mit dem Urheberrecht.

Liebe Grüne, ich möchte euch gut finden, mögen und wählen. Leider macht ihr es mir unmöglich: Bei Kernfragen wie dem Klima viel zu wenig Standing und jetzt dazu rechtspopulistische Migrationspolitik. Wenn ihr braune Politik machen würdet, weil ihr so eine unglaublich krass gute Klimapolitik durchsetzen könntet, wäre es zwar sehr ekelhaft aber irgendwie nachvollziehbar. Aber keine nennenswerte Zugeständnisse rausholen und trotzdem da mitmachen ist das Allerletzte.

Ich muss ehrlich sagen: Die Müesli-Grünen ohne Interesse an einer substanziell besseren Gesellschaft, waren mir immer schon suspekt.

Kretschmann ist eh ein CDU-U-Boot, war er immer schon. Von Ricarda Lang hätte ich mir mehr erwartet. War dann auch nichts.

Wer bereit ist, rechts-nationale Narrative weiterzuverbreiten anstatt sich ihnen entgegenzustellen, hat bei mir verschissen.

Why don't Americans speak in British accents?

THEY DO! Shortly after the Revolutionary War, Upper Class British started using non-rhotic speech (they drop their R's), and it slowly trickled into the speech patterns of every day citizens. The British accent as we know it now is simply different now than it was then. The Boston accent is a good example of non-rhotic. Try saying "Park the car in Harvard yard" in a Boston accent and then again in a British accent, you'll hear the similarities. The more nasal and clipped way we speak is probably due to German influence, add in Native American Speech patterns, plus a wave of immigrants from all over the world, and new American accent was born, as well as a whole lot of regional ones!

I suppose, in the first half of the XXth century, actors were still heavily influenced by the norms for theatre, where clarity of speech is of paramount importance.

I also suppose, that the new medium tried to be seen as a serious art form, and hence dialogues were expected to be given in "proper" (i.e. posh) speech.

Ich denke, die Wiederaufnahme bei Freisprüchen öffnet eine Büchse der Pandora.

Es ist ein sehr guter Grundsatz, dass man nicht zweimal wegen des gleichen Verbrechens vor Gericht gestellt werden darf.

Auch wenn es ein natürliches Interesse an Bestrafung für Verbrechen gibt, ist, denke ich, die Frage des Rechtsfriedens schwerwiegender.

Im ländlichen Raums sterben die Bibliotheken.

Das ist vor allem in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern zu beobachten: Gab es 2002 noch 154 öffentliche Bibliotheken, schrumpfte die Zahl bis Ende 2022 auf 94.

Wie sieht es bei euch aus? Nutzt ihr noch Bibliotheken?
