  • omnicaritas,

    Same.

    Morning Matt!

    There's too much of the "Hodl - stack SATS" going on - as if BC itself is going to save us all.

    It isn't. It's just a potential vehicle.

    omnicaritas, to random

    It still blows my mind how many fine musicians and diverse forms of music are to be discovered every day here.

    Received an e-mail the other day from someone who used to be rather active here and suddenly stopped. They told me they never "warmed" to the fediverse and are now using bluesky.
    I hear this so often and it makes me wonder whether my expectations are so low (because I really enjoy being here, and yes, I know about the flaws and that it's not perfect) or whether I just don't "see" the need to be elsewhere.
    Anyway. Happy for everyone who makes this a good place. Thanks, whoever you are.

    omnicaritas,

    @andijah
    Thank you too. Each to their own, I suppose. :)

    hankg, to cooking

    I've seen some ambitious recipes on modern cooking shows. What I've never seen is sweetbreads (throat lymph nodes or pancreas) and brains. Yet here is Julia Child in 1966 teaching her viewers how to make it so they can "get out of their meat rut of steaks, chops, saddle of lamb, Beef Wellington, or hamburgers". Minus the hamburgers that's quite a fancy and diverse rut, if I do say so myself. www.youtube.com/watch?v=4e8Fq1…

    omnicaritas,

    @hankg
    Good grief!

    omnicaritas, to taoism

    Words and names are not the way
    They can't define the absolute
    It's better that you look within
    Hold your tongue and just be mute

    Look within and look out too
    You will not find a separation
    Out there you see appearance
    Within you see origination

    Look within with wonder
    At emptiness and bliss
    For wonder names totality
    Where nothing is amiss

    The space within is always there
    If you can moderate desire
    A place of utter emptiness
    And possibility entire

    It's a Marty Pellow kind of a day so far

    How are you doing? I have laryngitis, so it's good moaning (θ‿θ)

    Thanks Matt. Stay safe! :)

    omnicaritas, to poetry

    the lament of all humankind
    is sung - like a song
    more a dirge that is long
    never-ending, till

    standing beside ourselves with grief
    the blessed relief of the harmonics and overtones
    no longer fall on deaf ears
    and at last the dirge dissolves

    omnicaritas, to legal

    Our son works shift at a popular restaurant in central London.

    He works various shifts and tonight's finishes at 12am.

    It takes him 2 hours to get home & he has a team meeting at 8am tomorrow until midday, then a shift from midday until 5pm.

    He will get 4 hour sleep if he is to attend the meeting on time.

    What is the minimum period of time legally allowed between shifts?

    A minimum of hours of uninterrupted rest between working days, but not legally.

    Any suggestions? TIA.

    omnicaritas,

    In other news I just recorded a chapter and cutEQ at 800Hz and 8kHz.

    Worked a treat.

    Thanks, Matt 💯

    I bought candy for the neighborhood kids for Halloween telling myself I'd exercise willpower and not eat any myself until it was distributed and there were only left overs...

    3 hours later: nom nom nom. :)

    Speaking of

    There's one near me. The guy serving was talking to someone. I walked into the shop (as you tend to do in shops) and there was a picture under the counter where the till was. I was looking at it, but the guy talking kinda edged in front of me as I walked in. I went past and looked at the books, also by the counter, and he stood right near me, in between me and the till.

    And I'm like: you design the layout with things near the till but you have a problem with thieves?

    omnicaritas,

    @lydiaconwell
    I volunteer in a charity shop. I'm never on the lookout for thieves.

    I'm sometimes on the lookout for bargains though 😊

    omnicaritas,

    @lydiaconwell
    I know. I live in London 😊
    We put smaller, pricier items under the till (behind glass) but there are pricey things on the shelves too.

    I've tried Sauerkraut and Kefir.

    I'm not sure how much they helped. I drank Kefir daily for a long time, but wasn't aware of any Neuro improvements.

    Then again, it wasn't known (or I wasn't aware) of any potential benefits at the time - so I wasn't monitoring for any changes.

    Expectation / placebo is definitely a thing IMHO.

    omnicaritas, to literature

    goes digital as British Library makes works available online

    The entire collection of Geoffrey Chaucer’s works held by the British Library is being made available in digital format after the completion of a two and a half year project to upload 25,000 images of the often elaborately illustrated medieval manuscripts.
