New this morning on CoffeeGeek: our latest Feature Guide:

@coffeegeek @coffee @espresso I got the Wilfa Uniform last year to replace a ~20 year old cheap 'n' cheerful conical grinder that finally died.

Really happy with it. Particularly like that it's easily adjustable between settings, no static, quiet operation, easy to clean, and now I've used it I wouldn't be without the auto-stop.

But now I need a better set of scales… 💸

Ooh, Ilderton Station's for sale (it's the one on the A697 between Powburn and Wooler). If anyone has half a mil for a novelty house.

@sarahdalgulls Blimey, I'll have been past that dozens of times without realising. I'll have to pay more attention next time I'm passing.

I didn't realise that was a thing, but here you go…

@ivan_t_dog: Malinois/German Shepherd cross, retired police dog (early retirement due to injury).

Now very happy with a more relaxed life, as long as he gets fed as frequently as possible. Thinks he's a lap dog, but he weighs nearly 40kg so it can get a bit uncomfortable. Likes going to the pub, because there's always someone who wants to give him a treat; nobody's lost a finger, yet…

A grassy track leads away from us towards blue sky and fluffy white clouds. A big black and brown dog appears to be launching himself toward the camera, tongue hanging out wildly.
Dappled sunlight through trees onto a forest track. A man and dog are running towards the camera, joined by a canicross harness.

Any recommendations for pubs in the Finnieston area of Glasgow on a Saturday night?

(Not BrwDg, thankyouverymuch)

Running round in circles

Haven't been on the track for ages. Wasn't too bad, once my heart realised it was meant to slow down in the recoveries, not speed up. That was a bit disconcerting.

Graphs of pace and heart rate The pace graph shows intervals of fast and slow. The heart rate graph doesn't always go down for the corresponding slow parts.

We've had a hard day at the Xmas Market, so we deserve some snacks and refreshment, don't we?

@ivan_t_dog's first market. He got a lot of attention, and took it all in his stride. As usual. What a star.

OK, now that it looks like is going down the road, what are the alternatives for finding music and making sure that artists are paid as well as possible for their music?

paul_edwin,
@paul_edwin@mastodon.beer avatar

@motomatters
Tidal seemed to be a decent choice when I researched this a while ago, although it's possible that things have changed since then.

Sorry, son, but some days you just need that little bit extra time out of the house for a second pint, despite the two families with annoying kids and the couple using their OUTSIDE VOICES FOR SPEAKING ACROSS THE TABLE, dammit

Honestly, camping in the UK can be great, but the campsites usually are not. If really nice, you will be overcharged and otherwise you will find yourself somewhere in a windy field, meadow or other large open terrain without a shop or restaurant on site.
Okay, the views are awesome, I'll grant you that.

paul_edwin,
@paul_edwin@mastodon.beer avatar

@helma
Sounds about right. Campsites in the EU seem to be cheaper with better facilities.

The Peak District is beautiful. My parents used to have a pub there, so I spent a lot of time in that area.

Vacations have started, tomorrow departure for the UK by motorbike. Yay. 🤩
Method of crossing: ferry (not a big fan, so a little nervous, but excited to go there again). Love the hills, curvy roads, countryside, history, food, culture, etc.

paul_edwin,
@paul_edwin@mastodon.beer avatar

@helma
We did the Newcastle-Amsterdam ferry a couple of weeks ago, it was very smooth both ways (much to Mrs E's relief).
Where are you going in the UK?

paul_edwin,
@paul_edwin@mastodon.beer avatar

@helma
First time for us. We were starting from Northumberland, heading to Czechia, so it was very much more convenient. Normally we'd take the Channel Tunnel, heading towards France or Belgium.

paul_edwin,
@paul_edwin@mastodon.beer avatar

@helma
Lots of good stuff! Northumberland is really nice, but I'm a bit biased. Peak District, Lake District … generally, the further north you go, the less built-up, more open roads and open spaces.

paul_edwin,
@paul_edwin@mastodon.beer avatar

@helma
Yeah, bit of a slog in the rain across to Most and back. It would've been nice to have more time to relax in the Netherlands and Germany on the way.
