So I’ve been planning to do a ride from Berlin to Budapest (or Vienna) this May, but after 5 days of partially offroad in Hungary I have some doubts whether I want another week of Eastern European Offroads :D Any suggestions for a long gravel or cyclepath-only, mostly nature route not too far from Berlin or Budapest? (Also somewhere not too hot:)

@mrc did you look at the Eurovelo routes?

There's nothing passing through Berlin, but the Eurovelo 6 has a Viena/Bratislava/Budapest part, and I've ridden that whole section. It's lovely.

Indeed the parts closer to Budapest were less cycling friendly but they could still be navigated. Now, it's a decade or more later and I hope they made some improvements (maybe).

G’day all,

We are Noe 🇪🇸 and Olive 🇫🇷. We have been living in Sydney for almost a decade when we decided it was time to see what Australia had to offer. We quit our jobs and packed our car to start the so-called Big Lap, a drive around the country.

We will be using this account to post updates of our journey as we discover things on our way.

We look forward to seeing you on the road ✌️

A late post: I'm Kevin, I live in northern and like understanding how things work. I spent many years touring, mostly as a technician but also doing some lighting and other jobs for family and style shows. I'm off the road now and considering my next move, which I'm hoping will allow me to work from home. If you're looking for a stay-at-home nerd with extensive experience in technical and logistics, let me know!

Camp site in the UK. This was pretty nice actually, because it was surrounded by trees, the pitches were huge and I was able to take some nice photo's of the starry night with my smartphone because it was pitch black at night. Yes, there were other campers there. 😆

Black starry night with some blue cloud dust.

Honestly, camping in the UK can be great, but the campsites usually are not. If really nice, you will be overcharged and otherwise you will find yourself somewhere in a windy field, meadow or other large open terrain without a shop or restaurant on site.
Okay, the views are awesome, I'll grant you that.

@organicmaps is really amazing for traveling via bicycle. It's insane how battery-efficient offline maps are. Keep the app in the foreground, but with the phone to sleep. Disable 4G, only wake it up when directions are needed, and the battery can easily last two days, even with another background app tasked with recording a GPX trace.
