Already back in 2012 the World Bank had commissioned from us a report entitled "Turn Down the Heat. Why a 4°C warmer world must be avoided". At the time, it ended up being the most downloaded World Bank report ever, and was supported from the top. Two more regional reports followed.

Little side fact: they had wanted a report on how to adapt to a 4°C warmer world. We wrote why it has to be avoided.

And here we still are, 12 years later ...

Despite the wet weather, the salad bed has remained relatively undamaged by slugs. Wish I could say the same for my climbing beans. I have had to resow the Czar beans which despite being large plants were decimated. Usually I use powdered egg shell as a slug deterrent but the fox ran off with my entire supply. The weather is again topsy turvy with temps dropping 10 C in just a few days, and unseasonal thunderstorms.

Here an excellent interview with Maya Wind, author of “Towers of Ivory and Steel”, giving a really introduction to the central role that Israel’s universities play in advancing its settler-colonial agenda - right across engineering, middle eastern studies and archaeology, and through the settlements and geographies they themselves bring with them. Hugely illuminating, and made me reflect on complicity of all universities.

This too is going to get so much worse.

And yes, I am aware of the irony/tragedy/whatever-you-want-to -call -it, that flying contributes to climate change and therefore turbulence. And now pondering whether climate change will in turn soon make flying too dangerous, and that there is a certain justice in that. All this; but for now do feel sorry for people on this flight.

Actually, it'll probably just make the pollution worse.

I would guess that they'd simply fly at a higher altitude to pass over the turbulence. This comes at increased cost/pollution (fuel) and obviously the aircraft's structure will have to go up a notch.

For context, Concorde flew at ~60,000ft and today, most flights are ~30-40,000ft.

@pvonhellermannn All Catholics, and actually Christians in general too, should read his Enzyklika laudato si. You can agree or not with the Church’s position on many issues but that paper produced by Francis is accurate in its evaluation of the current state of our planet.
