and have transformed computing indeed: we moved from a completely deterministic approach to telling computers what to do to one where we mumble various spells and incantations and hope they achieve something.

Truly a wonder of our age.

And then there were two. I think this is going to be my standard SBC desktop from now on…

@rcarmo That’s cute! Which one is this?

rcarmo,
@rcarmo@mastodon.social avatar

@ctietze this is the Radxa Zero I use as a sidecar. This time I may snapshot the config.

Well, that escalated quickly.

Paging @cstross because he'll fully understand the degree of gibbering madness that lies just ahead.

rcarmo,
@rcarmo@mastodon.social avatar

@cstross not the best, I'm afraid. Not enough eldrich horror.

rcarmo,
@rcarmo@mastodon.social avatar

@cstross but I'm fine tuning the prompt for the “enthusiastic VC marketing pitch" version, and that should be properly horrifying and brain melting.

@djlink Parallels for ARM, running on my Mac. Rock solid.

@rcarmo uff I saw that one a while but it has subscription or the 1-time was very limited IIRC :/

Oh goodness me. @cstross, you don't want to see this.

Anyway, Mixtral gets it somewhat right:

>>> no, what is the relation between Accelerando the book and lobsters
My apologies for any confusion earlier. In Charles Stross's science fiction novel "Accelerando," lobsters play a symbolic role in the story. The
character Manfred Macx discovers a group of sentient lobsters while exploring the Virtual Realities (VRs) created by an advanced artificial intelligence
named Panoply.

Mad idea of the evening: Controlling my VMs with / :

rcarmo,
@rcarmo@mastodon.social avatar

@AngryAnt that is exactly my use case. But I don’t want to use the Proxmox API, I’d rather trust well defined MQTT messages.

AngryAnt,
@AngryAnt@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@rcarmo Oh yea me neither - the webhooks are on the homeassistant side.

The PVE integration is a simple systemd service which checks the contents of known paths in the monitoring VM and acts on the result / writes status back.

I'm only doing it that way because I have very little trust in my IOT network - certainly not enough to have hypervisors interact with it directly.

This is getting a bit ridiculous

Ciantic,
@Ciantic@twit.social avatar

@rcarmo I did searches in Bluesky, this is what I noticed.

I searched "Rust" and got nothing of interest and sparse posts from Bluesky, but Mastodon gave bunch.

But with searching "Trump" you get more results in Bluesky than in Mastodon.

There is entire communities split on different apps right now.

Threads is what it is, but I hope it soonish federates.

This is ridiculous, and it shows that still hasn’t learned to do proper apps. It’s all over again.

The “thundering herd” effect is fun to watch - sharing a link to my site makes every single instance request the metadata (hence two requests, for the URL and the OpenGraph image) - even with in front, there is no escaping it on the back-end:
