    Nachdem mir heute gesagt wurde, ich sei "so gut mit Linux", erzähl ich euch mal, wie ich meinen Nachmittag verbracht habe. Thread! 🧵

    Wenn ihr mögt, gebt Ratschläge, aber wundert euch nicht, wenn ich nicht reagiere. Bin angenervt.

    Ich habe nen Fujitsu ScanSnap S1300i Duplex-Einzugscanner. Früher hab ich unter Windows den proprietären Treiber benutzt, um in PDFs zu scannen, mit OCR. Wenn ich mal nen Kassenzettel scanne, erkennt die Software das und macht automatisch ein sehr schmales PDF daraus.

    Are there more modern webservers than nginx in 2024 that you can recommend from personal experience? Or is it still a good choice?

    And are there alternatives to a dovecot + postfix + rspamd mail server?

    Or calendar servers you like better than Radicale?

    @blinry I use caddy as Webserver for everything, it's awesome. Working HTTPS with let's encrypt in 3 lines of config.

    For mail server I recently learned of Stalwart mail-server https://github.com/stalwartlabs/mail-server, which is a all-in-one SMTP/IMAP/JMAP server written in Rust that looks incredibly easy to configure.

    Eek. Apparently liblzma (part of the xz package) has a backdoor in versions 5.6.0 and 5.6.1, causing SSH to be compromised.

    This might even have been done on purpose by the upstream devs.

    Developing story, please take with a grain of salt.

    The 5.6 versions are somewhat recent, depending on how bleeding edge your distro is you might not be affected.

    @scy it’s worse: systemd-notify support is a downstream patch applied by some distributors, because apparently openssh-portable doesn’t support it upstream

    @scy Is there any reason this couldn’t be the kind of pressure lots of open source maintainers receive from their users? I would apply Occam’s razor and prefer much simpler explanations. e.g. ”state actors forced/convinced the dev to help” or “talented rogue dev did it for fun/out of spite/to hack ex-partner”

    The attack might be sophisticated, but IT security still is a garbage fire (again proofed by this).

    @scy I haven’t seen WandaVision but recently Multiverse of Madness, and it seems WandaVision is connected to Multiverse of Madness. I’ve watched Loki and season 1 was a good introduction into the multiverse thing. (I’m also in the middle of Phase 4, so I don’t have much foreknowledge and might be wrong)

    Aber auch Experten übersehen gerne Dinge: Betroffene sollten auch ihren Namen und ihr Geburtsdatum ändern, um Identitätsdiebstahl vorzubeugen.

    Gibt es eigentlich einen zugänglichen »Websitebuilder« zum selbst hosten? Ein Web-Klicki-Bunti, dass ich bei mir als VM aufsetzen kann?     @scy @Cheatha staticcms (https://www.staticcms.org/, fork von decapcms, ex netlify cms) ist ganz brauchbar, das ist eine React-Anwendung, die dann direkt mit der github/gitlab/…-API redet. Man muss ein wenig YAML-config schreiben und deployed das admin-interface als eine HTML-Datei, die das CMS lädt. Kann nicht nur Hugo, sondern auch diverse andere static site builder.

    @isotopp Ist gerade alles noch bleeding Edge, Firefox kann bspw. auch erst seit einigen Tagen (Firefox 122) Passkeys.

    Dienste, die es richtig machen, sollten mehrere Passkeys erlauben, das ist eine Backup-Strategie, die andere ist Sync per Google, Keychain oder Passwort-Manager (die Arbeiten alle an Support oder bieten ihn schon, auch Bitwarden: https://bitwarden.com/blog/bitwarden-launches-passkey-management/)

    Am Ende gibt es ja auch immer noch klassisches Recovery.

    @nixCraft you don’t need to invoke daemon-reload after using systemctl edit as systemctl already takes care of it. And a shortcut: systemctl enable --now <unit> enables and starts in one command

    I have 38 and some onboard NICs.

    I’d like to configure networking declarative (i.e. by writing to files, or at least by being able to run idempotent commands, meaning they shouldn’t fail or break anything when being run multiple times), and if possible without having to install additional software. Oh, and also, I’d like to rename my network interfaces based on their MAC address.

    I’m a reasonably experienced admin, but new-ish to Fedora. Happy for any pointers & best practices. Thanks!

    @scy the Fedora CoreOS way (which is by definition very declarative) is writing files to /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/ (https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fedora-coreos/sysconfig-network-configuration/), I guess that’s also applicable to normal Fedora. (systemd.link units also probably would be the CoreOS way, as the answer is almost always „write a systemd unit“)
