Just sold full wall canvas version of my Extinction photo art, 30 minutes ago 😃 My first big sale for photo art in 2 years. I'm getting paid extra, because my customer wants the image to be smoothly spread out over a huge wallspace.

@msquebanh congrats and awesome!

Watching the bear vs man in forest stories & I remember when our 9-year-old son said some boys at recess offered to play with him if 'he hugged & kissed a girl.'

He replied, "No, that's inappropriate," & told us he didn't mind not being able to play with those boys after all. Later his teacher shared she was happy he stood up to peer pressure.

Y'all—it's never too early to teach boys about consent & boundaries. Have the convo. Then again. And again. Boys will be the boys we teach them to be.

sortius,
@sortius@mastodon.social avatar

@QasimRashid I've been teaching my currently 6 1/2 year old son (and almost 10 year old daughter) about consent since they've been about 5. It just has to start with small things, build up to sexual stuff eventually.

The reality is, even young kids get consent, boundaries, etc, if you give them the time to learn and explore it

Oh great, Wednesday is a pupil free day. Now I have to figure out what I'm going to do with the kids.

Maybe finally take them to SinJeon for lunch

stux, to Sony
@stux@mstdn.social avatar

Well, I guess that’s it for ! It was fun as long as it lasted but like always, corporate greed has taken over

now required people to link their to their Sony-soon-gets-hacked-again accounts

I, like so many other players refuse this and just stopped playing all together since Sony just doesn’t give a shit about security

Review updated, guess they got what they wanted

sortius,
@sortius@mastodon.social avatar

@stux I've seen some pretty poor defense of these actions, and I can't really swallow it.

They knew from the start that Sony was going to do this, they should have made clear that a Sony PSN account would be needed.

It's pretty deceptive, and I'd be pissed, too, even if I had a PSN account already

sortius,
@sortius@mastodon.social avatar

@stux for sure. I saw how much effort you put into the game, I had friends playing it, they were loving the crossplay, etc.

All that good will is gone, now. Even if they do 'make up for it', how can anyone trust the devs again?

NBN isn't as shit as what it was, for me at least.
A 100GB Unreal project is a mild inconvenience now, about 15 minutes-ish.
On the other hand if I needed to upload that we're looking at well over 6 hours if I'm lucky.

sortius,
@sortius@mastodon.social avatar

@wallamba I literally said to someone yesterday "I couldn't survive on anything below 1Gpbs these days".

Kind of sad that this is our upper limit though. What happens in 5 or 10 years?

sortius,

@wallamba yeh, it sucks, but how else are they going to squeeze small businesses to move to Business Ethernet?

I see we're already getting the centrist hacks painting it as a "tough budget" for Chalmers.

Fuck off.

There's nothing "tough" about the budget. It's fucking champagne and caviar... for the rich.

For the poor it's "We'll do what's fiscally responsible", a meaningless phrase created by meaningless people like Chalmers and Albanese

BREAKING: The House just passed HR 6090, which expands the definition of antisemitism to include criticism of Israel.

Let me be clear. People have rights. State governments do not have rights. This terrible bill sets a dangerous precedent & does nothing to actually decrease or stop the scourge of antisemitism. The Senate should not pass this bill and Biden should not sign it into law.

sortius,
@sortius@mastodon.social avatar

@QasimRashid hahaha, of course they'll vote it in, and of course Biden, with a shit eating grin, will sign it in to law, with genocidal monsters flanking him.

American democracy was always a thin veneer of lies, but even that is gone now, with it becoming clear that America is to become the next fascist state, with both parties' blessing

Morning feed drama in the big tank!

The firemouth is real skittish, as expected, and the Jack Dempsey is just chilled as this morning. The firemouth snatched a food granule, went and hid below the wood structure, and started chewing, the JD just cruises over and starts chewing right in his face, staring him down.

She finishes the food, yawns, and he bolts toward the back of the tank 😆

At least I got to assess his damage: scratched face, half his tail missing, and a chunk of dorsal fin gone

the cops and liberal leaders have signaled that college protestors are not protected by the rule of law, so now the right-wing brawlers have showed up to attack them, right on schedule. great job everyone. https://www.cbsnews.com/losangeles/news/ucla-leaders-declare-pro-palestinian-encampment-as-unlawful-orders-everyone-to-leave/

sortius,
@sortius@mastodon.social avatar

@peter I still have people asking me why I think Biden is a piece of shit.

He's lain the groundwork for a total fascist takeover of the US, which will have far reaching ramifications for those of us outside the US.

This bullshit centrist "civility" crap is why America will become the next hardcore fascist state

sortius,
@sortius@mastodon.social avatar

@peter @Rocketsredglare which was my point. To us, outside the US, they are functionally the same. Biden has had 4 years to clean up the courts, legislate to prevent Trump from taking control of everything, basically harden the US state.

He spent the time eating fucking ice cream and glad handing

I don’t understand people who are like ‘what’s the point of decaf / nonalcoholic beer’

I feel like the point of those is, people who really like those food groups (coffee! Beer!) but can’t have the other thing (caffeine! Alcohol!) for health reasons, who will choose to consume like black coffee and hazy IPA ‘without the point’, solely for the taste, is the point :)

It me

sortius,
@sortius@mastodon.social avatar

@skinnylatte my ex has that same problem.

She goes out for work drinks, dickhead workmates ask her over and over why she doesn't drink alcoholic beer and sticks to non-alcoholic.

Hell, even my mate tried to argue "people only drink beer for the alcohol". You might, but there's plenty of us that like the taste of beer, and some who like it, but don't like the effect alcohol has on them (or other people)

Me: I never eat frozen food!

Also me: I love yoshinoya frozen gyudon!

I’ve now changed my mind to accept culturally relevant frozen food

https://www.sayweee.com/en/product/Yoshinoya-Cooked-Beef-with-Onions-in-Sauce--Frozen/2478?referral_id=4972487&lang=en&utm_source=copyLink

(Growing up in the tropics, we never had anything frozen. It’s more of a cultural bias from lack of exposure)

Yoshinoya is also what I spent all my pocket money on as a teenager, so it also makes me feel nostalgic even tho I can make better gyudon from scratch now

sortius,
@sortius@mastodon.social avatar

@skinnylatte frozen food definitely has its place. Dumplings are great frozen, if you don't want to make them, but there's other stuff that's actually better frozen: edamame and peas come to mind.

They stay greener and are easier to work with when frozen 😁

thinking about rebuilding our public squares in a hybrid digital age

  1. encourage public entities to share public info on public channels, not private platforms

  2. embrace sharing in real life, use email, snail mail, private messenger, radio, newspaper, public forum, neighborhood scale gathering

  3. create and use nonprofit and publicly owned social sharing platforms, but prioritize real life sharing when possible

sortius,
@sortius@mastodon.social avatar

@seachanger I know this is something people don't want to hear, but I can only speak to my lived experience.

What kills communities is cars. As much as we like to think about "online communities" being communities, they are not. I'm not saying they're a bad thing, but they're not a replacement for actual community.

I spent the last 7 or so years living in suburban Melbourne; great despite public transport, car central. No one walked, everything was "a quick drive to <insert place>" 1/2

sortius,
@sortius@mastodon.social avatar

@seachanger I rode my cargo bikes, but even then, no one interacted with me.

It was until I moved back into the city I realised how much cars prevent day-to-day "hellos" in the street.

In the suburbs, where the car ruled, I was gaining weight, isolated, felt like it was killing me, but now I know people I live around, shop owners, even local figures (like "Carrot Man"); hell, I've even lost weight!!! All because most people walk or ride around here 2/2
