Musk really hated the whole bird metaphor of Twitter. Something about it made him want to destroy it even though it was an incredibly valuable, world-recognized brand.

Hell, the word “tweet” became part of our language.

Musk just threw all that hard-won credibility away, tore down the signs, and sold off the furniture.

swart,
@swart@mastodon.cloud avatar

@Green_Footballs the bird metaphor is awesome. I would do the whole site over again with doves and homing pigeons

Alt text isn't just helpful for the sight-impaired. By reading alt text I can identify what the OP is calling attention to in the pic, helping me get the joke or social commentary that would otherwise be illegible to me. (Without this I'm like, I see a thousand details and I don't know which one matters to you.) #ActuallyAutistic

swart,
@swart@mastodon.cloud avatar

@independentpen I finding writing Alt text actually helps me understand why I’m posting something in the first place, and it’s usually more thoughtful than the other text in the post

Wow TIL Clare Torrey only received £30 for Sunday studio work for her timeless performance of Great Gig in the Sky in Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon album. In 2004, she sued Pink Floyd and EMI for songwriting royalties on the basis that her contribution to "The Great Gig in the Sky" constituted co-authorship with keyboardist Richard Wright.

In 2005, an out-of-court settlement was reached in Torry's favour, and releases after 2005 credit her vocal composition.

@ai6yr to be fair that’s probably true of Greater Vancouver beaches too. If they just stop testing maybe the problem will go away.

A note about my album posts: these are coming from a script that watches for me to start playing a song in Apple’s Music app, and sends the info to my web server, which then posts it to both Mastodon and Bluesky (so far). So yeah, it’s actually what I’m listening to (i.e. not some random bullshit).

swart,
@swart@mastodon.cloud avatar

@Green_Footballs interesting that it posts the Amazon link. I always have to go look it up in the Apple Music app. Too bad songs don’t have ISBN numbers. A streaming service independent playlist format would be great.

Thanks to the user Pengan, the secret weapon of obscure emulation within the Emularity framework, Internet Archive can now emulate many Atari ST programs, I've got an initial set of 862 games uploaded and now being screenshotted here:

@textfiles that font and green background is something else — I remember the Atari desktop being nicer than that, but I had an Amiga so maybe it was just the lack of interlacing that made it seem sharper

If the Washington Post hadn’t tried to suddenly QUADRUPLE their digital subscription price after years of being a reasonable $4 a month, I wouldn’t have canceled my subscription and they would have continued collecting that small but steady fee from me. But tbh, now my attitude is fuck them.

Use Apple Music.app on your Mac?

Here's an easy way to add all the SomaFM channels at once:

Go into Music.app, and Cmd-U (File -> Open Stream URL) and paste in:

http://somafm.com/all.m3u

This will add all the SomaFM channels to a playlist called "SomaFM". (It also seems to put them in another playlist called "Internet Songs" but you can delete them from there with no problem.)

swart,
@swart@mastodon.cloud avatar

@somafm seems to work — will it also get graphics from the site? It’s been a loooong time since I looked at an m3u file…

I don’t see an Internet Songs playlist, so that’s cool.

React stans are exhausting.

swart,
@swart@mastodon.cloud avatar

@brianleroux I was playing with SwiftUI because it seems like a pretty decent component based UI builder, but I ran up against the edges fairly quickly once I started trying to send notifications around the component tree (same thing I constantly fight against in React). As long as you’re building the stuff they’ve anticipated it’s great.
