A new piece by me for Explore - in Lisbon I caught a bright yellow tram to historic neighbourhoods, as part of tour utilising both tramways and walking...

This is how it has to go IMO. The world isn't going to put up with Israel's ad hoc apartheid system forever, might as well sort out an equitable solution.

Here's a piece by me for Traveller, from my visit to Croatia last year. In Zagreb I joined a food walking tour and learned all about štrukli, one of the nation's most popular dishes...

"I’m surrounded by štrukli admirers in the attractive surrounds of the restaurant’s courtyard, with its picturesque stone wall and shady trees. Though to tell the truth, my fellow diners are rebels of a sort – as La Štruk daringly ventures beyond classic štrukli to produce modern variants containing ingredients such as walnut, honey, apple, roasted capsicum, and even (gasp) truffle paste..."

This simple dish is one of Croatia’s national treasures https://www.theage.com.au/traveller/inspiration/one-of-croatia-s-national-treasures-is-there-for-the-eating-20240126-p5f0au.html

Took this photo of the apartment after we stepped in yesterday, following our train trip back from Sydney.

Ah, home again. We try hard to leave the place neat when travelling so we don't step back into a mess on our return.

Please don’t spell focused with two Ss as "focussed" - it hurts my eyes. There's no need to double the S, as the stress is on the first syllable. See also, for example, riveted not "rivetted"; targeted not "targetted".

This has been another public service announcement from Grammar Pedants United. :)

When I was in a book club, I wouldn't show up if I hadn't read that month's book. I eventually left when almost no one each month read the book. The socialising was nice but, c'mon, read the book.

Why we keep showing up to book clubs — even when we haven't read the book https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-01-18/book-clubs-still-popular-bringing-readers-together/103326462

This has to happen; removing parking requirements would make apartments cheaper. And you can definitely do without a car in inner-city Melbourne.

This line is good too, probably true I imagine.

'Taylor said her research had found that trying to provide enough parking for everybody led to an oversupply of off-street parking but did not stop people parking on the streets.

'“Who parks in the street? It’s mainly people who have houses with garages full of junk,” she said.'
