@andycarolan shows that it is viable, is all I'm saying. I'd rather like my magazines without ads, but they don't bother me. Not half as much as web ads or ads on social media, or commercial breaks rudely interrupting the flow of a story on a tv show.

@andycarolan indeed. I think the TV show / movie equivalent would be product placement. It can be annoying if it's really obvious, but same goes for magazines that are overloaded with low quality ads.

Tim Cook is aware of the problems with right wing hate speech at XTwitter. On CBS Sunday Morning he was asked why Apple continues to advertise with Musk, and he said the antisemitism is “abhorrent” and “it’s something we constantly ask ourselves.”

Maybe it’s time to stop asking and start doing.

@Green_Footballs I'm convinced (hopeful?) the dominoes will fall. I don't see Musk backing down from any of his delusional 'free speech' ideas anytime soon. The cost/benefit of advertising with X is continuing to slip.

Gisteren in de boekentas een brief van de school over 'de Italiëreis'. €1000 en de impliciete veronderstelling dat iedereen dat gewoon kan ophoesten. Ik dacht dat we dit soort uitsluitmechanismen achter ons hadden gelaten.

@stevenodb @iworx Het gaat erom dat dit soort reizen met beperkte educatieve waarde niet door een school georganiseerd moeten worden. Zijn vaak een verdoken manier om de schoolpopulatie rijk en wit te houden. Veel scholen hebben dat ook achter zich gelaten. Ik dacht de onze ook.

@philipdutre @iworx @stevenodb niet als je als school mensen een factuur van €1000 in de maag splitst voor een reis van 9 dagen tijdens de schooluren. Dat is meer dan laptop en schoolboeken voor een heel jaar.

@alda I always understood this as more than just 'styling', so it made sense to me. I guess it's also easier to parse json than a css file to check if a certain property is defined?

are the worst, most user-hostile security design ever imagined in my lifetime. They're endlessly confusing for people, the sync mechanisms make no goddamn sense and their rollout has been a complete shit-show so far.

Let's start with Chrome and passkeys. I'm on a Mac and I want to use a passkey. doesn't even support passkeys, so I can use or . IF I USE CHROME, the passkey generated is NOT synced OR usable on the iCloud Keychain. It exists only on the Mac Keychain. So if I lose this laptop OR delete my Chrome user, that login is simply gone forever.

Ok so I'll use safari. Whoa there partner, now the passkey isn't usable on Chrome! Now I'm locked to Safari forever. Let's say I'm sick of Apple and decide to go to Android someday? All those logins are gone forever.

Jesus Christ, I'll use Windows. Nope, those passkeys don't sync ever! So if I ever lose that laptop, I'm locked out of all those accounts regardless of how I use passkeys.

None of these risks have been properly communicated to users and none of them are acceptable. I cannot believe that we are suggesting that anyone use these broken things right now. Shameful.

@matdevdug This is by design if I'm not mistaken,. Passkeys are meant to be tied to a device, which in reality is a browser on a device. 'What if my phone gets bricked' was my first thought when I saw it explained. Solution is to have multiple passkeys, I guess?

@matdevdug The dude in the demo I saw was very happy that he could now use his smartphone to log in and throw away his password. Because phones never die or get lost or stolen, obviously. The whole thing hasn't been thought through and any workarounds turn it into something inherently insecure or the same stuff we already have.

Long shot, maar heeft er iemand een idee wat voor karakters er kunnen voorkomen in een naam in het rijksregister? Meer dan 'speciale tekens' staat er niet in hun documentatie precies, en dat gaat dan over accentkarakters en weglatingstekens. Boost = tof.

I've got a question: I'm generating SHA-256 hashes of 20 million numbers (salted with a shared secret). I'd like to know how long a chunk of the hexdigest needs to be to be very likely to be unique across the dataset. Experiment says they're unique from 14 digits onwards, but I'm wondering if this can be determined in any other way and if it depends on the input at all?

Ik begrijp wel dat velen menen dat een voor fietsers tot minder leed zou leiden.

De realiteit is echter meer genuanceerd. Ik kan niets toevoegen aan de argumentatie van (https://www.fietsersbond.be/de-fietshelm) en (https://fietsberaad.be/wp-content/uploads/2021_ADVIES_helmdracht-1.pdf), behalve één zaak: Beste media, stop er aub eens mee om bij elke onfortuinlijke gebeurtenis met een fietser dit afgezaagde debat opnieuw te pogen aan te wakkeren.

Tripje aan het plannen naar het Jubelpark, en dan zou een geharmoniseerd openbaar vervoer toch een gerief zijn. Eenvoudig één ticket kunnen kopen van A tot Z, dat geldt op trein, bus en metro, zou een gamechanger kunnen zijn. Nog beter op EU of Benelux niveau 🙏

Yesterday I was driving home from Germany using Waze. At some point I got a surprising warning prompt I'd never gotten before: 'animals on the road'. Weird, on the Autobahn, but i kept my eyes open as a deer or a loose dog could be dangerous. My heart sank when at the approx. location I saw a broken down car with a black woman waiting beside it. I, and lots of other drivers, got subjected to a racist 'joke' through Waze. Waze has no way to report this, but I'd like to. The user is known to them.
