Airflow dynamics scrub classroom air

> research demonstrates that an under-floor air distribution concept combined with a ceiling-distributed exhaust system, which generates local and vertically stretched airflow patterns, can significantly reduce airborne pathogens in classrooms by up to 85 per cent

What’s different about your life now, compared to pre pandemic?

What’s different physically?

What’s different about how you view yourself and those around you?

Do you feel closer to friends and family or more distant?

Are there things you expected to change but didn’t?

trendless,
@trendless@zeroes.ca avatar

@PapyrusBrigade

The biggest difference is fewer "friends" (were they, though, really?) and fewer in-person interaction.

Having developed chronic illness, a lot of the day-to-day physical calculus has changed.

My perception of myself hasn't changed much, but my perception of others has, drastically. The desire to fit in and maintain position in social hierarchy even unto death is far more prevalent than I ever could have imagined. But I've also found a camaraderie that I never could have hoped for or expected.

Virtually everyone from TheBeforeTimes™ has drifted away.

Life is still full of roughly the same number of good days and bad. The structure of our civilization is much more resilient (for better or, mostly, worse) than I would have believed.

"Alberta won’t undertake an environmental assessment of Canmore’s controversial Three Sisters development because it doesn’t believe it has jurisdiction to decide whether such an assessment would be warranted, the province said Wednesday."

...is this a joke? Doesn't have jurisdiction? What kind of nonsense reasoning is that? Whose is it then?

@dyckron it's the responsibility of those who want to govern -- their own fault they didn't lie+cheat+steal well enough to beat the TBAUCP and get elected. 🤪

Look, elected representatives of Alberta: if you don't wanna do the job, step tf aside and let someone who will.

I hope Albertans have a long enough memory to hold them to account for the outcomes of their irresponsible and destructive policies, no matter when they're finally evident enough for the majority to recognize.

Did the AMTA (Alberta Motor Transit Authority) just appoint Stephen Harper's brother president and then immediately pivot to trumpeting the success of the hydrogen truck pilot being run for the past year by Nikola and Bison?

Good evening, Shop. Past my bedtime, but the Mastodon Mothership gang has made a discovery of a very poorly behaved server out there.

Contentnation dot net appears to be scraping(? not sure if that's the technically correct term for this) profiles, and their associated followers and posts, and replicating them on their own service giving the appearance that Fediverse accounts are presenting themselves via CN's own services.

My fam's favourite zoom storytime host's last day (maybe ever) is today -- his was one of the first we started attending several years ago when all sorts of libraries in the PNW were offering remote versions of their in-person programming and he's one of if not the last to still be doing so. Thank you so much, Mr. Andy; hopefully my kids remember how much you've meant to us. 💞

It's almost the most depressing day of the year, everyone.

It's the Pandemiciversary!

Mark your calendars for March 11 and plan to stay home and avoid social contact. Watch Contagion and laugh and cry at the layered irony about how they said governments would react to an existential threat like SARS 2.0 while eating freshly baked sourdough and drinking too much alcohol over Zoom with all your friends that hopefully won't abandon you, this time.

It seems like a lack of imagination and outside-the-box thinking is majorly responsible for where we're at currently as a society. Perhaps in part because 'divergent' perspectives have been othered all the way to the edge of the margins in favour of middle-oriented group-think.

https://www.michaelgeist.ca/2024/02/first-take-on-the-online-harms-act/

> After years of delay, the government tabled Bill C-63, the Online Harms Act, earlier today. The bill is really three-in-one: the Online Harms Act that creates new duties for Internet companies and a sprawling new enforcement system, changes to the Criminal Code and Canada Human Rights Act that meet longstanding requests from groups to increase penalties and enforcement against hate but which will raise expression concerns and a flood of complaints, and expansion of mandatory reporting of child pornography to ensure that it includes social media companies. This post will seek to unpack some of the key provisions, but with a 100+ page bill, this will require multiple posts and analysis. My immediate response to the government materials was that the bill is significantly different from the 2021 consultation and that many of the worst fears - borne from years of poorly thought out digital policy - have not been realized. Once I worked through the bill itself, concerns about the enormous power vested in the new Digital Safety Commission, which has the feel of a new CRTC funded by the tech companies, began to grow.

Lazyweb help please.

Need a URL for a UK supplier of 3M Aura, N95, disposable, non-valved face masks for Covid protection. Preferably a box of 10 or 20.

I can't find my way through 3M's product numbers or supplier websites.

It's a simple question. Why is it hard?

trendless,
@trendless@zeroes.ca avatar

@TalktoBeverley @sb in North America, the red straps are used exclusively on 3M's Aura 1870+ N95. Their Aura N95 non-surgical respirators have blue (9205+) or white (9210+). Same APF, though. As an aside, I don't understand why, but it seems rare for a respirator to be submitted for N99 certification. The Aura 9205+ N95 scored 99.7 in masknerd's tests and the Vflex 9105+ N95 scored 99.4. iirc, only the made-in-🇨🇦 Vitacore CAN99 scored higher among the FFRs he tested, at 99.9. Obv the tests are specific to his face, so ymmv.

@TalktoBeverley @sb very welcome! The additional splash protection included in the former doesn't impact its rating vs aerosols/particulates, but whether occupational health+safety regulations permit its use in healthcare environments where staff are likely to be exposed to blood/sputum splatter.

trendless, (edited )
@trendless@zeroes.ca avatar

@jbond @TalktoBeverley @sb that's actually the page for the whole 9300+ series, but fair enough. The model numbers I mentioned above are all considered FFP3, so they must have the red headbands. Assuming cost isn't a factor, the 9330+ sans splash protection would be the best option for non-healthcare settings.
