For all the talk of “maker schedule vs manager schedule,” I don’t think we appreciate just how much management and coaching benefits from focus time and deep work and open space to think and help others.

A back to back jam packed agenda is the problem for everyone.

Imagine the coaching that could be done if you had two solid hours to help someone? Imagine the career development if you had an hour to plan and think through someone’s growth before speaking with them on it?

Managers suffer from a “manager’s schedule” just as much as makers.

I just looked up the elevation of Boston Logan airport—an airport built on fill in Boston Harbor—and then did one of those sighs when I found out.

(It was a turbulent approach, I was in an aisle seat, and I just wanted to have a reference for when we would land to compare with the altitude on the flight tracker. We landed safely.)

I've decided to get my #AmateurRadio license. I already know most of the fundamentals so with a little study should be able to pass just fine. I think it's an important infrastructure to keep going and expand, especially these days.

I will also continue to expand the #LoRa #Meshtastic network on the North Shore of Boston, with hopes of having it support connection all the way to Boston Proper (we have line of sight spots up here directly to the city and surrounding areas!)

On top of that, I've got the hardware and ability to set up a MassMesh mesh wifi node. The network is small, but a good proof of concept for a higher bandwidth community networking solution independent of the trunk internet.

Any tips or encouragement from anyone appreciated!

We need to start contending with the fact that not only is AI simply not helpful, it's actively harmful—to the environment, to our continued survival on this planet, to our society, and to human progress.

We need to stop the AI train before it drags us off the cliff it's barreling toward.

It's not enough to simply ignore it and roll our eyes.

There are straightforward methods. You need to do the work to gain clarity on the system and people you're responsible for leading. You do the work to communicate that clarity of purpose—constantly, repeatedly.

There are straightforward values. You respect people above all else. You empower them to participate in the work, not just do. You make everyone a part of the mission you're undertaking together.

Most leaders were never taught. How could they be?

Bitcoin is like a big emperor's new clothes moment for the stock market; it's this thing that's literally useless that everyone has somehow agreed has value, and for some reason it goes up and up.

Meanwhile people talk about stocks and pretend that their fundamentals have everything to do with the valuation, as though it's all not just one big casino game with people putting bets down and other people and oh yeah computer algorithms parroting them.

It's all meaningless.

F it, just ordered a Teenage Engineering Pocket Operator 33 KO.

I've had one evening with an old Roland from the 80's (discovered in its original box in a time capsule apartment untouched since then, long story) and had an absolute blast, but haven't had a synth since.

So much “I’m super sick with all the symptoms of #COVID but it’s not COVID because I had three negative home tests” going around.

People—home tests aren’t perfect and there’s increased immunity and lower viral counts these days. It’s probably COVID.

I honestly think #SocialMedia was a mistake.

Watching someone who made a small mistake get piled on by the angry mob, all reinforcing each other. Almost brought me to tears how easily the whole group can become assholes.

And just reading QAnonCasualties and knowing why and how that happens.

One of the biggest issues of our generation. Very scary.
