It never ceases to amaze me when I go to the stable and find fresh eggs in there. I don’t know why, I just think it’s incredibly cool that these little animals can produce an egg, every day.

Also found 2 had been snuck into the pack of bedding straw. 🥚🐓🥚🐓

@kev On reading the first paragraph about going to the stable, and before seeing the pictures, I thought you were saying that your horses had laid eggs!

On Friday, I had pan-fried, left over, macaroni cheese for dinner. The START / STOP buttons on my microowave have stopped working, so I couldn't reheat it.

I'm trying to fix the buttons now. They are on a flat plastic panel and seem to have contacts that get better contact when pressed, and I think that they now longer "spring" open again.

Does anyone know how I could fix these?

For example, which of these would you tend to prefer?

There is an interactive online editor that is helpful for creating the initial code.

English coverage on the #Iceland #volcano #eruption from state broadcaster RUV:

https://www.ruv.is/english/2024-02-08-eruption-on-the-reykjanes-peninsula-404272

The lava has broken pipes carrying hot water used to heat homes. Civil defence are warning people about safe use of gas heaters and not to overload the grid with electric heaters. It's interesting, because it highlights how these means of heating are unusual. Cheap hot water makes life in Iceland comfortable.

Hey guys I joined mastodon to find different people I fw on the other apps. Just get sum juice in my feed no I'm saying. I'm bored with regular social media. IG , snap and shit . I done with all that frfr.
I want to find more interesting people to fk with .
Hit me up so I can scan your shit and follow you back.

@Jaden3 Welcome. Hashtags are a good way to search on Mastodon.

Check out or to see photos and videos of lava erupting right now. There are spectacular drone videos and posts from scientists and locals nearby.

markdarb, to Iceland
@markdarb@mastodon.social avatar

If you want to see four live streams of the eruption all at once, they're embedded on this English-language news site: https://icelandmonitor.mbl.is/news/news/2024/01/14/live_feed_from_the_eruption/

My understanding is that the eruption is happening either side of the protective dike that was in the process of being built, and that lava is slowly flowing in the direction of the township quite some distance away. But it's hard to find good information and news sources this early.

volcan01010,
@volcan01010@fosstodon.org avatar

@markdarb +1 from me for @RagnarHeidar and the RUV website (https://www.ruv.is/english/2024-01-14-an-eruption-has-begun-north-of-grindavik-401887) as good sources for news on .

The Icelandic Met Office website is good: https://en.vedur.is/about-imo/news/a-seismic-swarm-started-north-of-grindavik-last-night Ragnar works there.

I have a blog post from 2016 with a list of good sources and links to post that give context. https://all-geo.org/volcan01010/2016/09/recommended-sources-of-information-on-katla-volcano/

The Icelandic Met Office page is the best place for official news about the #iceland #volcano #eruption near #Grindavik that started a few hours ago.

https://en.vedur.is/about-imo/news/a-seismic-swarm-started-north-of-grindavik-last-night

This eruption is producing lava, with very little volcanic ash, so the effect on aviation (if it continues this way) will be minimal.

For spectacular photos, follow the hashtags above.

The recent news that MoneyDashboard is suddenly shutting down has exposed a gap in the way OpenBanking works. @volcan01010@fosstodon.org avatar

I don't understand the Cycle to Work scheme.

I order a bike and spread the purchase cost over 12 months, paying from pre-tax salary. Fine.

But I don't own the bike, I'm only hiring it. And the FAQs deliberately don't say what happens at the end.

https://www.cyclesolutions.info/faq

Another FAQ said bike may be returned. If I buy a bike, I'd spread the cost over 10 years, not 1, so that sounds expensive.

Or I can "buy" the bike at the end. But for how much? The saving will be less then.

volcan01010,
@volcan01010@fosstodon.org avatar

@kev That's what I'd thought until I started reading. This scheme talks about a "hire agreement" and a "completely free rental extension".

There is an option to "own or return", but I get the feeling that owning won't be free. And the way they are so cagey about things makes it seem like a scam.

volcan01010,
@volcan01010@fosstodon.org avatar

@kev That sounds good. In my mind, I'd only buy a bike that is intend to keep for years. In fact, now that I think of it, the main reason for ever replacing any was because they were stolen or I broke the frame.

TIL there are dozens of neat little command-line tools hidden away in the Python standard library, available to run on any machine that has a Python installation https://til.simonwillison.net/python/stdlib-cli-tools

volcan01010,

@simon Nice list. http.server is handy to get files off Windows machines.

I like python -m pdb -c continue my-script.py to let me drop into a debugger if my script crashes.

pip wasn't on the list, but subprocess.run([sys.executable, '-m', 'pip', 'install', 'geopandas']) is how I install extra dependencies into the bundled Python environment of the QGIS mapping software.
